Anybody us 5881's in a ROV

I ordered 6l6 tubes from mesa. Recieved a set of str 430's. Honestly think the 420's that were in it sounded better. Always willing to try other tubes, I'm running some tung-sol 5881's Pretty good, earlier break up. Still I would like a new set of str 420, I don't know maybe it's the number 8)

STR-420's are the old Chinese Coke Bottle tubes. They are no longer in production. The current Chinese replacement is the Mesa STR-440 and is the Ruby designed Shuguang Phillips copy. They are much smoother than the Russian STR-430's / Sovtek 6L6WXT's. IMO, the Sovtek 5881 is a good sounding tube, but I am sure the Tung-Sols will offer a different coloring. They are made in the same factory, so they better.

I have a set of 5881's in my single recto at the moment. Which is basically the same amp but without reverb. Nice sounding tube. Big and round. I like em.
