I have tried to find specific example of what I want to do, but haven't found it so far.

My question is, on a 2009 Dual Recto, running a Mesa 4x12 8ohm cab, I also want to run an Orange 2x12 16ohm cab.

What would be the best way to run the 4x12 and the 2x12? (speaker out/speaker lead configuration)

Any help on this would be great, thanks.

This senario is clearly explained in your owners manual.

Plug the 8 ohm cab into the 4 ohm jack, and the 16 ohm cab into the 8 ohm jack.

Again, this is clearly explained in the manual under speaker matching. RTFM

Thanks Dom, yeah I have read this in the manual, but there is a lot of discussions on the interwebs where people claim that this works better or that works better, or so and so know better than Mesa or whatever.

Will stick with what the manual suggest, thanks again.

There's also another way of doing it - connect both cabs to the 4-ohm jacks. The total load is 5.33 ohms so it's well inside the safe range. (You could also connect both cabs to the *8* ohm jacks which is also safe even though it's lower than the matching impdance, but will sound a bit different.)

The real difference is that with the 4>8/8>16 setup, both cabs get equal amounts of power. This means that the speakers in the 2x12" cab will be driven a bit harder as the will each get double the power compared to the ones in the 4x12". Since they'll also be V30s it won't matter, they're still well under their power rating; but, you may get a more even sound to do it the 4>8/4>16 way, since that will send 2/3 of the power to the 4x12" and 1/3 to the 2x12", which will mean that all six speakers get equal power.

For some reason, I prefer the tone of running two cabs from the same impedance tap and mismatching the total, rather than mismatching both equally as Mesa suggest; but both are safe for the amp.

Hmm... you never mentioned this in your original post, you gave the impression that you could not find any information.

Anyway, you can also do as 94trem has stated and still be within a safe mis-match.
