This should be a easy question to answer. I've owned my 5:50 for almost a month so I'm still in the Honeymoon stage. But, am I crazy?
I thought the contour worked indepenantly between the 2 channels. In other words, if you step on the pedal and turn it on while on the burn channel you can switch to the clean channel and it'll still be off like it was before.... or will it be "on" when you go to the clean channel because you stepped on it while on the burn channel.
I could have sworn that it worked independently when I first got it but it doesn't now.

I have a 5:25. It does the same thing with the foot switch. If you turn the contour off, it's off. On the back of my 5:25, it does have separate 1/4" connections for toggling the contours independently (CNTR1, CNTR2).

Uncle - when you switch channels with the Contour on the Contour light stays on right.
That's cause you've still got it on and it'll activate to whatever level you have set the Contour knob too.
Why would it work any other way.
It does work independently.
If you set the Contour knob to 1 on the clean channel and to 10 on the burn channel and then switch channels you'll hear quite a difference in EQ

As I interpreted the question, he wants to be able to switch the contour on/off independent of the channel. So, yes, he can set the amount of contour via the knob, but the contour is either on or off for both channels as actuated from the footswitch. Here's an example. Let's say he is playing in the clean channel with the contour on but wants to switch directly to the burn channel with the contour off. I don't think the amp will permit this. He would have to switch to burn and then toggle the contour off. It's not useful to turn the contour knob down and call that "off" since he may want two sounds in the burn channel - contour on and contour off.

I too was surprised when I discovered this.

I dont think that's what mine does. On the front panel, next to the contour knob, is a toggle switch to set the contour knob to on, off, or footswitch controlled. I have both my toggle switches set to footswitch. Then when the lights are green, I stomp the contour off and it stays off even if I switch channels back and forth from green to red and back to green. The contour on the red channel stays on. I turn the contour off or on seperately for each channel by doing it this way.

I'm not positive, I'm not sitting in front of my amp right now, and I never turn my contour off anyway, but I'll verify this when I get home tonight. I think I remember trying this when I first got the amp. It doesn't make sense that the contour would be either all on or all off for both channels. They should be independently controllable. Maybe I dont understand the question?

If you have both front panel switches set to footswitch contour will be on or off on on both channels depending on the footswitch. They're not independent that way.

Interesting. I dont see why they put two separate toggle switches on the amp then.......

So I suppose I could set the toggle to "ON" for the channel where I want the contour to be always on. Then set the other toggle to footswitch and use the stomp to turn the contour on/off on that channel.

Yes, I think that is the best case scenario. I'd leave the contour on for the clean channel and switch the contour on/off on the burn channel. I'll try this when I get home.

Never was independent unless you hook seperate footswitches to the jacks.

Heres the solution..

Just turn down the Contour all the way down on the channel you dont want it active. This represents the same sound as if the contour was disengaged.

Or flip the contour switch on the amp's face panel to the off position.
