Hi there,

I own mesa boogie Mark IV combo (bubinga) short head. I am planing to bay one more cabinet for this amp or maybe I will make one of my own. It' s cabinet 2x12. If I decide to make that cabinet, I think to use 2x Celestion vintage 30 (8 om). Those two speakers give 120 W, and in serial connection they should give resistance of 4 om, which I think that is a good solution.. ?? As you know I have one input on my amplifier on 8 om (where is connected internal black shadow Celestion) and two more inputs available on 4 om.

I would appreciate ANY advice or experience about this matter, especially in matter of making the cabinet and choosing the right speakers.

Thanks for your help!!!

Yellowjacket? You out there? In the meantine, give this thread a read.

Check out the TL806 Plan - I built one of these and added an Mesa EV12L. Easy build & sounds incredible. Yellow Jacket took this one step further and modified this plan into a 2x12.

There is a thread on that around here somewhere I'll try to locate it.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing. I have a Mark IV head and sometimes just can't carry my 4x12 around and was also thinking about a 2x12. The speakers I was looking at are Celestion GT12T-75, Mesa C90 and Reissue 25. All 8 ohms.

Can't wait to see what you end up doing!!!

Marshall does have a 2x12 cab (the 1936 model?) that is loaded with the Celestion GT12T-75's. Worst case I was going to check that one out.

I liked the advice for modified cabinet ev tl806(2x12)! I was thinking to made a cabinet like "THREE-QUARTER BACK™ DESIGNS" or something like that.. in essence the cabinet whit open rare Sade, bat I believe that cabinet ev tl806 works better.. ?
I have some questions..
I would like that my cabinet look like, http://www.mesa boogie.com/gallery/gallery.php?id=80 ,- in this case is Imbuya but I would use some other available quality wood. Can that be a problem, if I use wood instead of a plywood?
The same question apply to inner side of the cabinet- Is plywood better than a wood ?
Is sound affected by this ?
Can I make the inner parts of the cabinet from Mediapan(MDF) ?
I already downloaded the building chem for ev tl806 and I am interested to know does that chem contains all necessary informations to built this cabinet? I suppose that there is but I am not sure? :)))

If you have the tools to do dovetail joints you could certainly make it look like that.

Two 8 ohm speakers wired in series equals 16 ohms. You'd need to wire them in parallel to get 4 ohms.

Have you thought about using two 1x12 cabs? Much easier to haul around, and convenient if you only need 1 speaker.

I made a mistake. When i was writing the text, i was thinking on parallel connection. I want to have the cabinet for my play room and for my enjoyment. My boogie is combo, and his celestion black shadow its enough for my club play. I tried this combination with Marshall jcm800 lead series cabinet ( 1x12 celestion g12m 70) and its sounds very well!! I hope that the cabinet i should be made will sound so well too, or maybe better.

Definitely building scheme ev tl 806 contains all necessary sizes and information about building the cabinet...I am still in dilemma about a material and between open back cabinet or ev tl806...
