thanks barfly!

lots of Mark2b ear candy in this one....

there is a LOT going on with this mix...

i've got 4 acoustic guitar tracks, 4 elec rhythm tracks, 3 lead solo tracks, 5 background elec-noise/feedback tracks, 3 percussion tracks, 10 tracks of drums, 4 vocal tracks, 2 bass guitar tracks.......!!
heheh

but, the tracks all come and go,
most of the time, its just the acoustics, bass, and percussion... with the main vox and a harmony....

i used the feedback guitars to create soundscapes thru the middle 'scary' part,
it represents the guy moving through the fog, looking for the wolf, and the wolf watching and waiting.....

i guess i could have done all that with some cool synth pads,
and that would work well too.....
but i had a space to record the electrics as loud as i wanted,
so i did.

LOL

appreciate it dodger....

by the way, rig used on this recording:

carvin_artist.jpg

1984 Carvin DC200K, 1977 Ibanez Artist 2618

rig_2.jpg

1981 Mesa Boogie 60w Mark2b, (2) roland 1x12 closed back cabs with greenbacks, (1) Demeter SSC-1 iso cab with celestion V30

Interesting GEQ settings...

hehe, yea, right?

well, that shot was taken during just one rhythm guitar overdub,
and that was the eq i needed to get it sit in the track the way i wanted.

i tell you this,
back when i used to gig a lot,
i NEVER used the EQ!
except in bad rooms, where i might boost or roll off the 80hz fader, and the 6600hz fader...

but when RECORDING, i will twist every single knob and every fader on the eq, no matter HOW it looks!!
LOL

this way, i don't have to do as much eq'ing when i do the mixdowns.
i kinda know in my head, how i want each part to sit, sonically.....
and sometimes i just cut to the chase, and put the eq directly on the amp first.

it does make the speakers respond differently,
and by itself, may sound kind of crappy...

and in the mix, it sounds perfect.

nothing lives in a vaccuum.
a lot of guys never fully grasp that part.

also,
you'll notice the master is low...
but i was NOT using the attenuator,
and we all know how loud 1.2 can be on the master with lead channel on 2!

heheh

it was a softer part, and i had it eq'd to blend in behind another more bolder part....
