Just wondering if anyone has tried a quad of 6V6s in their Mk V yet? As I understand, you can use those as well. Also, does anyone else get a fairly loud hiss from channel one? It goes away in 2 and 3....Just wondering.....Steve

Guess not. :/ I'd love to hear the sound of diff tubes in this amp. Does the reverb seem a little bit lacking to anyone else? I the verb dimed on channel 3 in one of the stores. Sounded good, but normally I like to have more reverb than I need. Just in case I guess.

i have not tried 6v6's. i put new jj 6l6's in mine and have a couple kt77's to pop in to try. but i had a hiss in channel one, especially tweed that drove me insane and the biggest reason i rushed into a tube change. it helped A LOT. i have no hiss now on channel one except a bit in tweed which i only kinda hear when recording it.

explore the reverb options, there is a few different ways to insert it via rec tube or diode and such. i am not a big reverb on amp kinda guy, actually never use it so have not spent much time on it, just played w it a bit and checked it out.

I spoke with Michael over at Mesa Boogie yesterday, and he said that you can indeed use 6V6s with the Mark 5. You need to use the Variac power setting, keep the bias at 6L6. He recommended not using the 10 watt setting, as the power is just too low. But the 45 and 90 watt settings should be fine. Sounds like an interesting tonal option....

I did. It drops the output of the amp considerably, but "fat" on 45w with tube recto sounds great. Like a Deluxe Reverb.

Did you try it on the 90 watt setting?

I did, but as I recall my favorite setup was 6V6s in the inside, 6L6s in the outside, variac power, so you get the mix of the four tubes in 90W and when you switch to 45w the amp just uses the 6V6s. Was very nice.

Alright, y'got me ;)

Ok, so I'm just betting that the bias will be relatively cold in variac power anyway, so I think you'd probably be ok anyway, but I was really referring to the quality of JAN/Philips stuff more than the bias voltages. 8)

As I"ve been told, using 6V6s requires the bias setting to be on the 6L6 setting....
