Do you guys EQ your 7 string the same as your 6 string? I was just wondering because I have a totally different setting for my 7's, even though all my guitars have the same pickups on them.

Grab 6 of the same models in a shop and plug them in a clean amp and play some chords. None of them will sound the same.

I EQ my amp differently for EVERY guitar I plug in. Even two supposedly the same models can have quite different tonal characteristics. Wood is natural product and we cannot entirely control the outcome. If you like Gibsons like I do, you have to in addition deal with quality control that is all over the place. Maybe you have more luck with other manufacturers, but still, minor differences in how the guitar is set up (string action, bend, age of the strings) all add up.

My old band used to switch between 6's in Dropped C and 7's in B standard and they sounded different, but my 6 string with EMGs sounded close enough to my 7 string with EMGs that it worked for me. It doesn't help that most 7 string pickups sound nothing like their 6 string counterpart.

Pretty much what Smurf said though, guitars with the same pickups, wood, and everything else will always sound different from one another.
