Here's a project I knocked up after buying a 5E3/hybrid mongrel thing.
The builder had a single input cascading both sides of V1, a toroid tranny with no centre-tap BUT still used a 5Y3 with a diode c/tap (modified hybrid Graetz rectifier).
And some really "unusual" changes - DC heaters for V1, a bias adjustment circuit, no pilot light.
And it hummed like a ******* with no signal..
Gutted it, built a 5Y3 instead. Only single input, small board for the PSU, otherwise point-to-point and it's a tone demon although doesn't do uber-cleans. I prefer 12ax7 in V1 for the crunch, but 2 X 12AT7's and it goes close to almost "clean".
B+ is high, and some caps are gonna get changed down to pull the bass back a little..
Hope it give others some ideas.. Dave
