What's the difference between these amps? I'm considering getting one of the 2 to run in unison with my Triple Recto.....  and for a "back up." These things are selling for not too bad prices on the bay, and I was just wondering about them. Also, I've heard the Block letter 5150's are more desirable than the ones with Eddie's signature on the front? Why is this? Thanks guys

The 5150 and 5150 II are good amps for crunch. I have 2 5150 heads (one modded one stock) and used to use them exclusively. The 5150 has a bit more low end than the 5150 II but the clean channel is improved on the 5150 II. I did some mods on my 5150 head to make it switchable to go from a 5150 to 5150 II style preamp (not perfect but close).

There is no circuitry difference in a sig and block head 5150 but the blockheads were a short production run because it was a tradmark infringement of some sort. To be honest I picked up my blockhead for $400 on the bay years ago and will be keeping it in hopes that it goes up in value even more.

All in all they are good reliable amps that you can definitely depend on. The tone is good (albeit it is not very versatile) and would be a good contrast to your triple. These amps really have too much gain so you can really get carried away with the pre control.

For $500 or less I think it would be worth it just to have lying around.
