3 Channel Dual Rec Question? FX Loop?

Hey guys, Heres my deal I love the crunch sound from this amp.... But the clean blows
I have a peavy transtube (solid state head) & I like it's clean much better. I want to run the peavy as normal into my 4x12 cab & run essentially the mesa in the peavys FX loop so when I kick on the FX I got the Mesa Distortion & crunch.... With me so far?
Which mesa output on this amp will give me just signal & no power to send to the peavy?
I am thinking the slave out but I want to make sure.
This will be pretty damn cool ifI can make it work!

i think you would be better to run a A/B switcher. use your pv for your cleans and mesa for your grind. otherwise you would actually be using the pv preamp for your grind also. think about it, your pv signal goes out to your mesa input, and then back to your pv return loop???

I hear you & I understand that.... However, I am only running the 1 cabinet. If I was running a full stack That would be the easiest way to go. 1 cab for each sound. That's just too much crap to drag out to all these shows... Not big enough to have roadies yet!

You *can* do exactly what you want - using the Mesa as a preamp in the FX loop of the Peavey - but it almost certainly won't sound very good because it will be running through a solid state power section. You can try it if you like though.

*First* (this is critical) *remove the power tubes from the Mesa*. If you don't do this you will cause serious damage to the amp. Then connect the Peavey's FX send to the Mesa's input, and the Mesa's FX send to the Peavey's FX return. Now, the Mesa is just a tube preamp. If it doesn't sound good, you will need to get a proper amp and cab switching system, like this:

So you can run both fully operational heads through the same cab. It may look like a lot of money to spend, but any other method of running both amps fully and only one cab will almost certainly risk major damage to your Mesa, because there will be at least some point when the amp is running with no load.
