Can you get some good jazz or classic rock tones out of a 3 channel Dual Rec, especially when used with an open or semi-open back cab?

Classic Rock - Yes. Just don't expect it to sound like a Marshall.

Jazz Fusion - Yes. Just don't expect it to sound like a Mark.

Uber-Sterile Polytone Jazz - No... but it does have a better clean channel than most give it credit for and it will do the squeaky clean thing at the volume levels most jazz ensembles I've seen play at.

That said, I'm not a jazz guy so take my opinion with a grain of salt. :)

I think the Mark 5 is a better match for that kind of thing. Mark 5 has some great british inspired sounds along with the smooth lead sounds from the MARK series history...plus the clean channel is super awesome with clean, fat, and tweed modes.

I would say that none of the Rectifiers, even the Roadster or Road Kings, would give you a good legitimate jazz tone on their own (even for jazz fusion). You could get an EQ pedal to help it, but like previous posters mentioned you'd be better off with a Mark series amp for that. Mesa even admits in the Roadster manual that you could do everything with the Roadster except for jazz!
