Hey folks,
I've been doing alot of reading here recently, as I've gotten my hands on a Mark III from January, 1986. SN is 165xx. It's Simul Class, has the 5 Band EQ and Reverb, but the 100 transformer, so it's only a DRG... The blond tolex is in really good shape and it has a cooling fan.

It belonged to a friend who just passed away, and I may end up helping the family sell it, come fall. The previous owner had been running quad 6L6 Mesa Boogie brand tubes and all-Mesa 12AX7s as well.

Are the No Stripes generally more or less desirable than the Blues and Greens, or is that simply a question of player and playing style?

It's like asking, "Is Hershey's chocolate better than Nestle or Godiva?". If you like chocolate, they all taste good! :D

There are character traits of each of the stripes, so it just depends on what you like. Many of the opinions on prior posts emphasize metal style playing and tones for comparison. If that style doesn't fit you, just ask. Several around here can explain the basic tonal differences more generally.

hey, sorry about your friend. his name wasn't UBL was he?

heads usually sell for more than combos. does it have the 105 PT? about the stripes, it depends on the person, but i think maybe red or blue are most desirable, but they all rock. simul is a nice option, as well as reverb and GEQ. having the 105 PT would be great, but the SN seems high for that. You should have no trouble selling it. maybe $700 to $850 without the 105 PT. I wouldn't know how much more if it has the 105 PT, but my guess would be $1000 to $1100, but I could be way off.

best

It does not have the 105 PT. As far as I can tell it has the 100, not the X101.
