1982 SOB Squeal

Does anyone know how to solve a problem with a 1982 SOB that starts squealing when the limiter is turned down and the gain settings are turned all the way up ? :x I had a similar problem with a Marshall JTM 45 that was solved by adding a capacitor in the inverter stage.

Sounds like a microphonic preamp tube.With the amp on and volume set to where the squeal just stops,tap on each preamp tube with a pencil or something and see which causes noise.If that doesnt reveal the problem its possible it could be a bad filter/decoupling cap in the preamp.
