Different rectifier tube in Mark V

Hey folks. I took my Mark V to the shop after a total power failure and smoke smell, the whole deal. He thought it was going to be a specific diode issue that he’s seen in various Mark Vs, but it turned out to be an intermittent rectifier tube. He replaced it with a NOS Westinghouse 5U4GB and...

Very frustrated trying to change V1 preamp tube

So I assume you guys are removing the entire chassis just to change out one preamp tube? I spoke to Mesa and they basically say to do that, or take it in to an authorized tech. REALLY? There's no way I'm going to line those little pins up without seeing them.

Preamp tubes for slower/softer clip in Mark V

I appreciate the perspective! I’ll be trying this out right away and reporting back.

That is an overwhelming amount of discussion... WOW

Preamp tubes for slower/softer clip in Mark V

I love love love my Mark V. But I figured out exactly what could be better about it, and I’m wondering if tubes could make it happen. I find that the weakness of the V is that the transition to clip is a bit sudden. Compared to my Lonestar, Cali Tweed or King Snake, I find that it gets dirty...

    Triaxis/2:Ninety noob needs guidance!

Hey all, I finally got my hands on the rack rig that made me drool in the ‘90s, the Triaxis/2:ninety combination. Early version, SN T0126, no mods, version 2 software. It even came with a fantastic-sounding cab. BUT! I have questions… (1.) I’m hearing some clipping late in the chain, and it’s...

The one tone I can’t seem to get

I wish that were true. There are some ‘OK’ cleanish tones on channel 2 but they all want to break up pretty quick. I have been experimenting some more with lower gain on Crunch mode, as well as adding a Klon or Zendrive type pedal on Channel 1. I have a Black Country Customs Tony Iommi boost...

The one tone I can’t seem to get

I’m in love with my Mark V, and I pretty much agree with the ‘It’s You’ thread. However, after a solid year and a half of working with the V, there’s one important tone I’m about to give up on trying to dial in. It’s that vintage low-gain, smooth transition into breakup, clear upper mids...

    Tweed and Edge Mode Discovery

I’ve found that with both Tweed and Edge modes, the secret seems to be lower-than-usual treble settings. These two modes function very differently than the rest of the amp, and they seem to give up the best tones when there’s not a lot of treble loading the circuit... a little push on the 4th...

Problems with your Mark V...it's you.

This thread rocks. A tough-love support group for Mark V players. Hi, my name is JB. My inconsistent picking and loose-goosey dynamics were revealed by the Mark V. Good to be here.

LOWER GAIN preamp tubes for Mark V?

Hey Mark V people! I see there are various tube swaps out there for getting huge lead tones, but I'm looking for a specific effect: I've noticed that the Mark V channels 2 and 3 seem to go right from 'almost off' to 'distortion' without a smooth transition phase in between for those 'dirty...

Not much love for EDGE Mode usually, but...

I have found that Edge mode is the most useful mode on my Mark V! This weird revelation came as I realized I was looking for a ‘natural breakup’ mode for classic low-gain rhythm sounds and bluesy leads. I was shocked how much this mode liked humbuckers and singles, how well it took overdrive and...

Where do you guys get your JAN/Phillips 12AT7 tubes?

My first time looking for tubes, please point me in the right direction for good 12AT7s. I know the market is constantly shifting because of supply. Here’s one I found: http://www.thetubestore.com/Tubes/12AT7-ECC81-Tube-Types/JAN-Philips-12AT7WC

    Another killer LSC/LSS Mod idea??

Wow! So by this reasoning, you could actually do the ‘footswitch drive’ mod and ADD the Thick/Thicker mod to it, right? One switch, turning on the drive and the thick switch. Basically that would give you the ‘virtual channel 3’ I was thinking of.

    Help on LSS/LSC clean tone

I think the key to the LSS (and Mesa amps in general) is to think of the tone controls according to ‘feel’ as much as ‘EQ.’ I don’t know if the clean channel can jump and respond just like a Fender, but I would try this: Set your bass lower than usual, like 9:00. If using single coils, you can...

Mark V Midi Control with RJM Mini Amp Gizmo - experiences?

I'm thinking of going the RJM Mini Amp Gizmo route to integrate the amp with my other gear. They sell a special cable just for using it with the Mark V. Looks like a great setup, just wondering if any of you are using it and how it's working.

Another New Guy With A Mark V.

Bandit2013, I'm going to have a brand new Mark V in the house soon. I have no interest in going down the long tube swap road, especially since my knowledge is limited at best. But I am keen to try the JAN 12AT7 if it's really that noticeable. My tastes lean much more vintage than most My V...

Anyone here using the Mesa 2x12 vertical slant cab?

Very very cool - thanks for the reply! This will actually be my first closed-back cab ever, so I'm sure it'll take some getting used to. But my hope is that I like it, and the Vintage 30s too.

Anyone here using the Mesa 2x12 vertical slant cab?

I'm about to order the Mesa 2x12 vertical slant cab loaded with Vintage 30s. Any experiences with this cab? I'm a non-metal player, going for the more vintage-friendly side of the Mark V. Thanks!
