hi guys, i own a roadster and i've been at awe at petrucci's tone during his roadking period. do you guys actually have a pic or some sort of link to show his settings? anybody here managed to nail his tone close enough? i run my roadster with a TS9DX and an eq in the loop. Thanks in advance!

i'll always opt for the roadking anytime man. Its the amp that makes me in love with boogies anyway, the crunch, lead & rhythm tones are just phenomenal IMO. I've played mark iv and heard many records of it and i think its a good amp if you like 80's metal tone. However, i'm also excited by the...

but from what i can compare, the v30s deliver the best tone for heavy metal chugs and downtuned stuff. i personally don't like what i hear on my RoV combo with c90 in it. i would say they work best for cleans, just IMO.

i have the rectoverb and have been dialling very hard to get 'my' tone. As far as i know from seeing and listening to youtube videos, the tremoverb has a different recto sounding. i think you should take on the tremoverb.

+1. I encountered the same problem recently and a preamp tube change at V4 will fix this.

yeah they all run together. yeah its the roadster cab with v30s in. They're more definitive for metal chug IMO. The C90s sounds nice on cleans. i think its the camera's mic not picking up the sound well :cry: . I did back off the gain indeed.

i run my RoV with the roadster 2x12. Trust me, the cab is way much better sounding that the tone coming out of the combo. Definetly has clarity and good enough for heavy chords chunking! :D

that's what i find too on my jsx, not thick enough. Sounds like your after mark series amps if you are into JP's tone on constant motion. Fair enough with the stilletos coz they're running EL34s same as the jsx. you might wanna wait up for a mark 5 if it ever comes out this coming year end! :lol:

actually modern channel can sound well even for non de-tuned stuff. i'm not too sure on other recto's but on my RoV i think the vintage mode could have sound better. i really worked countless dials trying out to perfect the vintage tone to my ears but now i find the modern channel has a clearer...

you cant be running out of gain with that beast :evil: when i first got it i played around the modern mode looking for those dark and heavy sounding, then i worked on the vintage and i liked it. but now, i go back with the modern mode but this time i tried dialling it back a lil off...

bare in mind both are not made to emulate the Mark series..totally different tones. both modes are great but i personally prefer working on the vintage.
