    Mesa Boogie Subway Rocket..?

I own one. It is what it is. A small portable combo. It is loud enough but the shared EQ makes it a challenge for live use. Clean mode needs the mids down, lead/contour modes need the mid up, IMO. Lead mode is somewhat nasally. I only use mine as a practice amp and for recording.

    Advice on amp selection

I play an Express 5:25 head. IMO, it is quite versatile. I use guitar straight into it for jazz gigs. For other stuff, I run my pedal board with it (some pedals out front, some in the loop). It has good reverb, tone controls are effective, contour control is great, four modes offer plenty to...

Subway rocket DIY 5 Pin footswitch?

Your subway rocket uses a 5-pin footswitch??? Which version of subway rocket do you have? Mine uses a two-button footswitch that plugs into a 1/4" jack.

    Carbon Copy volume drop vid

Weird. I run mine through the loop of a 5:25 head and it is extremely transparent. If anything, I get a slight increase in volume, but rolling back the mix fixes that. I have the mix at about 2:30. What are your settings?

fix for intermittent contact btwn MIDI cable and footswitch

I had the same thing when I bought mine. I just bent a pin or two on the cable slightly so it makes a snugger fit and I have had no problems since.

    Advice needed please

^ +1 I can't believe this amp is too bright with a Les Paul in the neck position. How high are your pickups? The higher they are, the more "bright" response you get. If they are too high, there is little to nothing you can do with the amp eq to tone it down.

Auto wah /envelope filters a replacement for a wah pedal?

I use a Digitech Synth Wah for my main wah now. I owned a Dunlop Crybaby a long time ago and I got tired of scratchy pots/replacing pots. It is also nice not to have to "work" the wah with your foot. I use it mainly for leads and the occasional clean funk chording. The Synth Wah also has...

What cabs do you use with your Express?

See my signature. I play many styles with this cab. Rock, metal, jazz, country. It sounds good.

    5:50 Pharty Bass

Where do you have the bass eq set at? On my 5:25, I have the bass way down (between 8/9 o'clock) on the Burn channel to tighten it up and lose the fart, so to speak.

    Pedal Board design

I have always built my own pedalboards. My current one is of the Ikea "Gorm" design. It was cheap to make, it is sturdy, and it is light. Here are a few pics. I like the spaces between the top slats so you can tuck all the cables in behind. I used a combination of velcro and bicycle...

Am I the only one not liking the 5 watt mode? ...misc musing

I play in 5W mode all the time. Amp is miked and we use in-ear monitors though. Frankly, I have found the 25W mode too loud and "bassy" for my live situation. I would have to agree the 5W mode sounds "thinner", but it just works for my setup. I feel I am barely cracking the masters in 25W mode.

Had an F50, now read why I going for the Express.

Interesting, you said "THE BEST was the BOOGIE EXPRESS 2.25 1x12", yet you are going with the 5:50. You do realize these are different animals, no? 5:25 is EL84 based and 5:50 is 6L6 based. At the higher volumes it appears you play at, I suspect you may notice a difference between the power...

    cabinet for express head

I have no experience with those either but I'm running my 5:25 head through the 1x12 Widebody and it sounds good to me.

using the burn channel for solos

Yeah, it does exactly what I wanted it to do. This sort of thing is not new, those big midi switchers (ground control??) do much the same thing although with more loops and loop configuration options. I like this one cuz it's small and simple.

using the burn channel for solos

You need one of these: http://www.loop-master.com/product_info.php?cPath=33&products_id=157 I bought one a couple of months ago and it works great. I put an overdrive in the clean loop set to a little dirt and an overdrive in the other loop set to a boost. Connect the channel switch output...

    EXPRESS 5.25 vs SUBWAY ROCKET

The loop works good on the 5:25. I used to like the parallel loop with mix on the Subway, but I think I just keep it at 100% now anyways. Not sure which is considered "better". Both work fine. Yeah, I think the 5:25 has less hiss than the Subway, particularly in the clean channel. Not by...

    EXPRESS 5.25 vs SUBWAY ROCKET

I own both a subway rocket w/o reverb and a 5:25 head. I had the subway rocket for about 6 years before I picked up the 5:25. I really like the subway rocket, but the shared eq can be frustrating. The clean channel needs the mids low but the lead/contour needs the mids at around halfway, IMO...

    Mesa Subway Blues Problem's

Yes, get the pots cleaned. Had the same issue with my Subway Rocket. Same symptoms as you describe - volume changes when you turn the pots.

    xotic bb preamp

How well does the bb preamp work for adding dirt to the clean channel, but at unity volume? Most guys seem to be using it to boost the clean channel - either a clean boost or to drive the channel more. I'm looking to add some light to medium overdrive to the clean channel of my 5:25 without...

    Gtr / Amp Mismatch?

Funny...I've got a 5:25 and a 5150 combo... Currently I'm boosting the lead channel on the 5:25 with a blues driver to give it more balls. Obviously, I don't need a booster with the 5150...and I even have the Eurotubes low gain option...
