Good pedal to put in front of a Mesa to overdrive it?

Thanks, I'll tweak it. And possibly get a TS9. Excellent, I'll check that out.

Good pedal to put in front of a Mesa to overdrive it?

I've got a Studio Caliber DC-2. Currently my only OD pedal is a Fulltone GT-500. Using that on top of my gain channel doesn't do much to give it an overdriven sound. (in fact, it actually clips it a little). Does anyone have a suggestion for a good overdrive pedal to put in front of a Mesa?

Amp kit that doesn't come with tubes

    Yes! This is awesome, thanks.

Amp kit that doesn't come with tubes

I am looking into embarking on a journey to build my own amp head. I have 7 Mesa Boogie 12AX7 preamp tubes. Every kit I've seen online comes with tubes. Is there a kit that is electronics only? (naturally I would get the power tubes separately, unless a kit came with just power tubes). Also...

Using the speaker of a DC-2 combo without using the amp

All good. As it turned out, I never came into possession of the amp head, so I won't be trying it.

Using the speaker of a DC-2 combo without using the amp

I'm looking to test out a head (Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister 18). I have a spare speaker that I intend to build my own cabinet with. But in the meantime, can I use the 8 ohm jack on the back of my Studio Caliber DC-2? I assume I would be able to do that, without powering the Mesa amp...

Troubleshooting for a Studio Caliber DC-2

Roger that. I am getting a feeling that the notion of the need of a specialized tube for V6 may be only a marketing ploy. I am finding very little literature/documentation on the tube. Also, as I have just bought 6 Mesa Boogie preamp tubes, since there was nothing on their site about a...

Troubleshooting for a Studio Caliber DC-2

by the way, I am a bedroom player, so early breakup would be preferable.

Troubleshooting for a Studio Caliber DC-2

I am in North Carolina, US. I've already purchased 6 12AX7 tubes (not a kit). Will I be alright to retube with the 6 I have, or do I need a special tube for the phase inverter?

Troubleshooting for a Studio Caliber DC-2

Ok. Not entirely clear what my action should be, other than make sure the new preamp tubes are consistent. If I am receiving all 6 new ones from the same place, do I need to do some validation before replacing them all?

Troubleshooting for a Studio Caliber DC-2

One more question about this. Here is that resource for the DC-3 tube positions: https://www.eurotubes.com/store/pc/Mesa-Boogie-DC3-Standard-Retube-Kit-p381.htm The first post indicates that V6 should be balanced. I also have a Mesa enthusiast friend who mentioned that the V6 tube is a...

Troubleshooting for a Studio Caliber DC-2

I have. The best I get is a description for a DC-3's tube positions. That also has 6 12AX7s. What is the likelihood that the DC-3 and DC-2 have the same positions?

Troubleshooting for a Studio Caliber DC-2

Awesome, thanks. I was hoping it would be more clear...is there a diagram that indicates which preamp tubes powers what? I'm wondering specifically about the FX Loop and rhythm channel.

Troubleshooting for a Studio Caliber DC-2

Thanks. I've got this one. Is there an EE schematic for this model?

Troubleshooting for a Studio Caliber DC-2

After I received my DC-2 from the seller at Reverb, I noticed it need some fixing upping (they refunded me some of the cost). The ground prong on the wall plug was damaged and the effects loop didn't work. I took it into a friend to do some TLC. He fixed the plug and put two new power tubes...

    Dual Rectifier characterizations

Sick gear. I just spent about an hour researching rectifiers. I think I might not want to go that way. They do have a great sound. But part of that is, that sound was all over various albums in the 90s and I think I want to go a different route. Also, the couple of videos I watched talked...
