Mark iii Blue Stripe 60w gain and volume loss on lead channel.

Why is it not clear to you that the bias is not the problem relating to the sound? Why do you feel the need to sit there on your high horse and talk down to me. 1. The amp was fine in all aspects running your so called stupidly high bias. 2. The sound problem crept in at some point while I...

Mark iii Blue Stripe 60w gain and volume loss on lead channel.

I’ve got 415’s in it at the moment. Which I’m lead to believe are one of the most robust 6l6 tubes. I did have an issue with one of the very fine, white wires going to one of the pots breaking free from the board. It was fixed immediately. But it was was either the treble or bass pot, not gain...

I will check the tube socket tension. Cheers

Mark iii Blue Stripe 60w gain and volume loss on lead channel.

The amp sounded great before any bias fiddling was done. This was with a bias of 46mA. Since I recapped and did the bias mod, somewhere along the line it started sounding low in gain and volume, but I’m not sure when this happened. I have rolled every tube in every position. I don’t really...

You obviously didn’t read the first sentence of the post. It is not the tubes

Mark iii Blue Stripe 60w gain and volume loss on lead channel.

Hi all. As the title says… and it’s not tube related. I’ve swapped and cycled. I’ve been poking around with this thing lately: first of all doing a cap job, which was successful (but am unlikely to do that myself again due to how hard these things are to work on) then a bias pot mod which was...

I have removed the pot so I can sell the amp in as close to factory condition as possible. I’m more concerned with the lack of gain and volume on the lead channel at the moment

I have put the stock resistor back in and it’s running at about 46mA. But there is some other issue going on. The lead channel is down on volume and has nowhere near the drive it should have. I wonder what could be going on

Mark iii blue stripe 60w redplating

You’re probably right on the money. When I started the process there was no clear information telling me whether I should remove both resistors or only 1. Since US amps, as I understand, only had the 1 resistor, whereas export models had both. I still feel like there maybe another issue with...

Over drive sounds weaker and the amp has less presence

Mark iii blue stripe 60w redplating

I wasn’t suggesting the pedal and the bias are related. I was saying that the pedal fault could be the cause of the “sounding worse.” But now I have a red stripe in front of me, I wonder if the blue stripe has other issues as well. We aren’t talking about a slight difference here, we are...

Mark iii blue stripe 60w redplating

Well… I endured up buying the red stripe and I can tell you, it blows the blue stripe away, BIG TIME. Original owner, original cover, original paperwork, serviced about 3.5 years ago and just AMAZING. So good, in fact, I’m wondering if the blue stripe was ever working properly. It seems to...

Mark iii blue stripe 60w redplating

Im not sure what to hope to achieve by doing that. The bias pot works, it’s just that it seems to want a 500k pot to get it down to 35mA. But with it sounding worse the lower I go I’m not sure if I could be bothered doing that. I’m going to check out a red stripe today. If I get it, I will put...

Thanks. That’s where it’s installed. In place of one of the resistors. But even with a 250k pot I can’t get the bias below 40mA. And the lower the bias goes, the worse the amp sounds

Mark iii blue stripe 60w redplating

Yes and no. The replaying is gone, but with a 250k trim pot installed I still can’t get the bias below 40ma. It’s functional, but it’s sounding like sh*t at the moment. It seems the lower the bias current goes the worse it sounds. It just seems quite loose and flubby, not how it used to sound...

Mark iii blue stripe 60w redplating

Yeah r102. But some amps only have the one resistor, instead of 2 in parallel. Just seems odd I need such a high R trim pot

Mark iii blue stripe 60w redplating

Just put a 250k trim pot in and it still won’t go below 40mA

Mark iii blue stripe 60w redplating

Fair point. But to be fair, the red plating must have been caused by a bad connection or the first trim pot I used being bad. Once I put the resistor back in, the mA didn’t change but the red plating stopped and is not present with the current trim pot. So to my way of thinking, the amp is...
