I find the Fat setting on channel 1 is providing my combo amp a much closer sound of working with a 2 twelve cabinet. I compared it to my Fender Twin with my Les Paul this evening and was surprised how close they got. In addition, the Fender Twin sounded flatter vs the more dynamic Boogie Mark VII

I have yet to find some good sounds on the Mark II B setting on this amp. It sounds a little hard, by the time I get some ok sound for leads, it has a very garbled sound for rthy. I can get good sounds faster on any other mode.

    Mark V Combo Mini Stack

I am thinking about getting a 2nd speaker for my Mark VII combo. When I want the bigger lower end, I can connect the two. If I have a gig or situation when I just want the single 12" sound, I can just stick with the combo. I would stick with the 1x12 Boogie 19" Open Back Cabinet. which I think...

A Mesa Boogie combo vs head and one twelve with 23" cabinet

Openback vs closed back: I would think if your into jazz, blues, some classic rock or worship music, most would prefer open back. If your playing heavy rock or metal, you would prefer thr tighter more mod focused closed back. It would be interesting hearing the difference between a 4x10 vs...

A Mesa Boogie combo vs head and one twelve with 23" cabinet

When did 4x10 cabs for guitar amps take off? I always saw bass cabs having 4x10's and guitars having 4x12's for over 25 years. Any advantages with 4x10 cabs foe guitar's with the exception of weighing a little less over the 4x12 cabs?

A Mesa Boogie combo vs head and one twelve with 23" cabinet

I used to have a Carvin X 100 watt head with a 4x12 cabinet and your right. The big full sound you get...there is nothing like it. But at my age, I don't want lift the speaker cabinet up my basement stairs and into a vehicle. I got a Fender Twin with pedals when I want the fuller 2 x12 sound...

A Mesa Boogie combo vs head and one twelve with 23" cabinet

It seems with more people using digital boards like Kemper, Helix and Boss GT 1000, needing an amp to be loud and your monitor is not needed like the old days. Amps are many times off the stage in the back room to reduce volume on stage so the engineers wanting to mix the band with low volume on...

A Mesa Boogie combo vs head and one twelve with 23" cabinet

Well the combo sounds fantastic and not boxy at all. The one problem I have is, it looks like a small practice amp. It does not look like a power house amp that it is, nor does it look impressive due to its small size. I am thinking about getting the head with the wide one 12 cabinet just to...

My love affair with Mesa bass gear

I used to have a Fender BXR 300 amp. I then bought the best sounding bass amp I ever heard; the Mesa Boogie 400+. Boy what a sound that amp had. I purchased it with the Mesa Boogie four 10 cabinet. Sadly the cabinet was so heavy and wide, I could not fit it in the back seat of my 4 door car. I...

    History of Mesa Boogie video

I searched for a book on Mesa Boogie and its history with lots of great photos and comments from artists but sadly it seems a book has not yet been written. However this is the most insightful video out there on the company.

How different is the EV speaker used on older Mark combo amps vs the Black Shadow celestion speaker on newer Boogie Mark VII combo amps?

Thank you for your replies. I'm actually very happy with the speaker they installed in the Mesa Mark VII. There is not one thing about the speaker I am not happy about. The only thing that I wished was for Mesa to have a slightly larger cabinet I understand that the EVM is very neutral, but...

How different is the EV speaker used on older Mark combo amps vs the Black Shadow celestion speaker on newer Boogie Mark VII combo amps?

The EV speaker was known to be super clean, loud, and very heavy. I always wondered why Boogie used that speaker over a Celestion which has quicker break up that they use now? Has anyone ever A/B these two speakers?

    Mark VII Channel volume differences

I'm so glad you finally was able to get an amp that works properly. I absolutely love the Mark VII combo amp. The clean channel rivals my Fender Twin, and I am able to get very good sounds out of all the modes on each channel. Plus the layout of the controls for each channel was done right. This...

I just did a shoot out between my Fender Twin 65 Reissue and the Mark VII Clean channel. I was amazed that the Mesa held its ground against the Fender really well. Because the Boogie is a single 12 vs the two 12 Twin, it has a little more open sound and with the graphic EQ, you can sculpt the...

I found so far the Mark II B to offer more of an open garbled distortion sound. I had limited use with it until I put a Blues Driver in front of it with the gain on the BD to 12 oclock. It provided more sustained without changing the overall tone of the amp. Made a big difference with it being...

    Bought a Mark VII!

Thanks, I fixed the caster. I put them on while in the guitar store where a dress shirt from work. Yes, a Timeline and Big Sky are on my pedal board.

I found with my Silver Sky for clean, I had to reduce the mid control knob and the mid graphic EQ slider. Then boost the 80 and 240 graphic EQ to get a decent sound out of the guitar in the Fat mode. Otherwise the mids are too ice picky and it just not sound good. I have no problem with my...

When I put my pedal board through the Mark VII on channel 1 Clean, I was surprised I did not get the sound I was looking for. I quickly went to my Fender Twin, did a little tweak on the pedals and confirmed I got the sound with a little bit of punch I wanted and then switched back to the Mark...

    Mark VII Channel volume differences

I found channel 1 rivals the Fender Deluxe Reverb. Serious chimey sound and it's not boxy. The clean mode sounds better on humbuckers and single coil better on fat

    Bought a Mark VII!

I purchased the Mesa Boogie Mark VII combo amp today from Guitar Center. I was able to get one from their warehouse which I opened and inspected at the store before I left. I was surprised of how many things were stuffed in the back of the amp which was hard to get out. A large brown bag that...
