    NAD JP2C, well ok, almost

No one else is contributing to this board like you do, Bandit; you have nothing to apologize for!

Anyone have an older JP2C to compare to newer built with the Shumacker transformers?

Any chance you recall which tube made the difference? Which V1 through V5? I swapped ANOS RCA and GE for V1 through V4 and I put a Sovtek 12ax7 LPS in V5 (phase inverter).

Anyone have an older JP2C to compare to newer built with the Shumacker transformers?

My 2022-built JP2C also came from the factory with some 'buzz saw/ice pick' quality to the top end. Two things seemed to mitigate that -- really breaking in the power tubes (100+ hours of playtime) and swapping the preamp tubes from stock JJs to ANOS 50s and 60s 12AX7s (RCA, GE, Sylvania ect.)...

    NGD: Gibson Explorer 80s WHITE

I figured you 'gents would appreciate this, seeing that this style of guitar is tied quite closely to Mesa Boogie. It took some doing, but finally, 1.5 years after Cesar teased that pic (and almost 10 years searching for a good one), I finally scored a white whale bucket list guitar! This is a...

Post your rig - part 3

1998 Mesa DC-5 with mods/upgrades as clean channel 2022 JP2C run with 50w EVH Stealth together dirty with TC Electronic Mimic pedal sending slightly delayed signal to second amp.

    JP2C Trouble Shooting

Regarding instant shutdown from standby, I almost always let my amps sit in stand-by before final shutdown for at least a few seconds, usually up to 30, just like warm-up. On the few occasions I've accidentally shut-down with no standby engaged - whoa, that's bad - it will make a terrible sound...

    JP2C Trouble Shooting

Do you turn the amp on with it pre-set to channel 2 or 3? I always put my amps to clean channel before turning them off, so that when I switch them on, it's the clean channel. I just switched mine on and off a few times (always let it warm up upon first power-up, at least 30 seconds -- i follow...

Mark V 90 watt tube rolling

Yes, the original tubes that came with the amp 2 years ago were STR 443 Blu's.

Mesa Boogie Mark V sounds fizzy in Channel 2 Crunch, Channel 3 IIC+ and Mark IV mode

I'm always shooting for straight-up late 80s Metallica tones, or recent Heathen tones (Mark III). So that may impact what we're both describing to each other about tube characteristics and amp settings.

Mark V 90 watt tube rolling

I do have the stock preamp JJ's, as well as 2 SPX tubes. I may try to put the original 6L6's back in, perhaps they were properly broken in and that's what I liked about the tone... I'll report back!

Mesa Boogie Mark V sounds fizzy in Channel 2 Crunch, Channel 3 IIC+ and Mark IV mode

No worries at all Bandit, I wanted to try a different power tube and your experimentation with them made me WANT to try various changes. The STR448's I got from Sweetwater (who couldn't send me color code BLU to save their lives...) are YELLOWS, so I know I can't have an exact apples-to-apples...

Mesa Boogie Mark V sounds fizzy in Channel 2 Crunch, Channel 3 IIC+ and Mark IV mode

GREAT write-up, Bandit, GREAT write-up! To the OP, I found my 2022-built JP2C to have a "tearing"-like sound in the top end, a kind of fizzyness I couldn't dial out without changing preamp tubes to ANOS (almost-new-old-stock), with 2 1950s RCA's in V1 and V2. The power tubes (from Mesa, STR445...

    Slant cabs 2x or 4x?

I run an EVH 50w Stealth with a JP2C, each through a 2x12 recto cab (one vertical, one horizontal) using this device so that it sounds like two people playing: TC Electronic Mimiq Doubler Pedal I'll never go back to playing just one dirty amp, and I'd totally buy another Mimiq if that one got...

Should Mesa Boogie reissue the Mark IIC+ ?

I saw a rumor on Sevenstring.org from someone in the 'know' that Mesa/Gibson was working on a MarkIIC+ reissue, and that it would be big money...this was about 8 months ago.
