they are shuguang 6L6/5881 tubes. No different than the straight glass tubes. I like them, they are no longer produced. I would not waste a lot of time looking for replacements.

Of course, in some amps only one side of the PI tube is used...so balanced really doesn't matter...even then, it still really doesn't matter as everything else in the amp is not balanced...balanced preamp tubes is actually marketing hype made up by sellers to get more money out of the consumer...

and once again: you will have to listen to it for a while and decide if *you* like the tone or not. nobody can tell you what your stuff sounds like except you.

what if you just put some tall rubber feet on the bottom of the rack so it clears the handle?

sometimes when a power tube goes it will take a resistor or two with it. sometimes not. if a rectifier tube goes,,the fuse will blow but usually no resistors go. if you replaced a power tube and the amp works fine, you probably don't have a problem. Mesa's are pretty tough amps...
