    What's your recording setup?

If you look more carefully, those Alesis are not Mk1 Active. They are Monitor 2 passives and placing the tweeters to the outside is fine in a horizontal position. I have found the same to be true for the KRK's. They have defiencies in general and I use them to double check certain frequenices...

Mackie Onyx 1620/1640 vs Presonus Firestudio

I really like the 1640 Onyx Firewire interface. The A/D's are AKM and have a very clear sound. Unfortunately, the mixer section of the Onyx does not affect the firewire signal, nor will it control your DAW. Once the signal enters the XLR input it passes through the onyx preamp and the gain...

    What's your recording setup?

This board is fun. Here's my set-up for now. This thing changes every 6-8 months. I'll won't list everything I use because that would take some time to recall. THTH, that's a nice Otari BTW. Need to get one in the future. A bunch of this stuff is courtesy of my label. At my studio space...

    22 vs 24 frets

Now I will admit that 27 frets is not practical, so how do you feel about 36 frets? :) Frets 28-36 do play believe it or not. I'll be the first to admit that these are over the top, but they are definitely attention getters.

What amps do the guitar players in Sevendust use?

Last time I saw them in 2007, John Connolly was rocking Randall RM100 Heads. Don't know what modules he had. As for recording, you would have to ask them what they used.

PRS update - from the man himself...

Wow, that's one hell of a story from Gibson and that rap artist. I remember talking to an artist rep from Ibanez years ago. He basically was an a cocky *******...kinda like Don Pitts. I wish I could help that rapper because it seems like he's been honest and put in a lot of effort to rectify a...

PRS update - from the man himself...

I've met Paul and know a few people that work at the factory in Stevensville, MD. The guitarist for the band I play in deals with their inlays. Paul is a nice (albiet weird) guy...too obessed with fantasy and dragons. Anyways, the newer Paul Reed Smiths just don't have the attention to detail...

do you use same brand of guitar cables in your rig?

I use a combinations of Mogami and Belden. All the same gauges and are customized for where they fall in the signal path. I also use a 12ga speaker cable. Cables are very important to me and I invest a good amount into them as they do make a difference. Now investing $1K's into high-end cables...

    22 vs 24 frets

Wow, Ed Roman up to his old tricks. I don't know of a Guitar Forum that hasn't had a hate post about Ed Roman. And this is going back 10 years. Like the one post says, he says this stuff to run up his sales and he's a relic from yesteryear that doesn't undertand the concept of subjectivity. What...

What's the Best Mic's for recording Guitar Amps?

SM57's are fine. The pro's use a variety of mics depending on the situation. I use a combination of mics at my studio. They usually entail a SM57 and a AT4050. Sometimes a U87 or a AKG414 as a ambeince mic. The Royer 121 is a top choice, but like so many other things, preamps make or break the...
