Your Opinion- Mark V over other Marks

I owned both Mark IV and Mark V. Ended up selling Mk V. I did a/b-comparison a lot. Mk V was versatile, but lacked some that magic what makes earlier Marks so special. It just didn't quite have that signature powerstage punch. I liked more MK V's clean channel thought. Especially tweed-mode was...

    Mark V channel changing problem

Thank you all for your answers. Popping sounds and loud hum occurred on all channels, even when master volume was at zero. I also checked possible ground loops, no help there. I took it to maintenance. Hopefully they'll fix it.

    Mark V channel changing problem

Well, I finally decided to buy Mark V. However, I get a loud "pop" sound when I change channel. Does anybody have an idea, how to get rid of this? I'm using my midi rig to change channels. Chain is: Midi controller -> Voodoo Lab Control Switcher -> Mark V ext. switches. I don't have this...

    Mark IVa cooling fan problem

Thanks for the answer. Yes, it's the old Howard cooling fan, and it's about 20 years old now. So I think it would be better to just change it. Do you know what would be the exact model, if I'd buy new Globe Motors cooling fan? Those are hard to find from here at Finland.

    Mark IVa cooling fan problem

I have a slight problem with my Mark IVa: When on full power, the amp's cooling fan is way too loud. I play mainly only at bedroom volume. When playing on tweed power, it's okay. I don't think it's broken in any way. I've heard, that A-version has louder fan than later version. It's that true...

    Mark IV problem

If it was the caps, shouldn't that resonating and buzzing electric noise occur also at tweed power? I get that noise only in full power-mode. Otherwise the sound is ok. When i opened the amp, there was no visual problems. Caps (those big blue ones?) looked just fine. If that was the problem...

    Mark IV problem

Hi I have strange problem with my MK IVa-medium head. When I turn power switch to full power, the amp starts to buzz and sizzle, like a huge power generator. I can play with the full power, but that buzz stays as a background noise. When I turn to tweed power, everything is okay. The sound of...

    Mark IVa Circuit Questions

Just curious, how do you know you need to change caps? How does it sound? I have a Mark IVa also from '92 and it has become "muddy" lately...I don't think tubes are ones to blame, 'cause they are pretty new :?

Mark IV lead channel sounds like it's dying?

Let's borrow this topic... So I have a problem with Mark IV. It has started to sound muddy or flubby. I have to crank treble all the way up now...I don't think it's the tubes, 'cause they are quite new. Amp is from the early 90's. Maybe filter caps are going bad? There's no loss of distortion...

    The Mark IV thread....!!

My Mark IV has started to sound a little muddy or flubby (whatever you call it). Tubes are quite new, so I don't think that is the problem...Amp is from the early 90's. What do think? What could be the problem? Filter caps? Or something else?

    Mark IV led problem

Yeah, I pushed the leds and that solved the problem. Thanks for advice!

    Mark IV led problem

I have a little problem with my Mark IV's channel ledlights. I use my TC G-major's relay switches to change channels in amp. The problem is, that when I change to Lead channel, the led shines bright for a moment. After couple of seconds it turns darker. I hear some slight change in sound too...

Nope. I Know it sounds weird to pinpoint your knobs like that, but with the right tubes, those little moves truly make difference. The rest of tone is in your hands ;)
