    12AT7 vs 12AX7

Well, in a nutshell, not good. The 5751 is weak and fuzzy. I like how the 12AT7 tightens up the distortion in V2 and still drives the blue and red channel but the green channel's volume really suffers. So, recently I'm back to all 12AX7's. I'll try some experimenting again another time.

    12AT7 vs 12AX7

Thanks for the response! After reading up on your suggestions I ordered a special JJ 5751 from Eurotubes. Looking forward to dropping it in once I get it this Friday. I'm hoping to get similar to better results in my Blue and Red channels but really hoping my Green channel gets a boost. The...

    12AT7 vs 12AX7

Hey, anybody try replacing 12AX7s with 12AT7s in their TC? I read that John Petrucci swears by placing a 12AT7 in V1 in the Boogies he's used (if I remember that correctly). Well, I replaced V1 with a Groove Tube 12AT7 and it provides a more focused, less hairy distortion but drives really...

    I love this blue channel.

Interesting to see you believe the Triple Crown has a lot of mids. I argued with Mesa's help desk about the tone of my amp sounding pixelated (distortion-wise) and overly "mid-rangey" but they claim the TC is not a "mid range forward" amp and I never got any real help. But one day after about a...

    reverb changes tone !!!! HELP!!!1

Wow! Funny thing is I've never heard my TC-50 with the reverb tank because I couldn't fit it into my 6 space rack with my Pod HD Pro X. I just disconnected it and put it away along with my pedal and cord. Now that I've figured out how to get it in there I'd like to hook it back up but the jacks...

    Plate Voltage TC-50

Sorry but in laymen's terms what does all of this tell us? Is there an article I can review to better understand the pros and cons of the info?

    Speakers???

Sorry to say but I strayed from the big cost of Boogie cabs and picked up 2 of these... https://www.thomannmusic.com/harley_benton_g212_vintage_vertical.htm You'll wait a month if you're in the USA but there is no BS about these cabs. The V30s are genuine and sound great! All metal corners and...

Converting a TC-50 combo to rackmount

Hey, riggles. I own the rack version with a Line 6 Pod HD Pro X for processing and I can tell you there is absolutely no room for the reverb tank in an SKB 6 space shallow rack 1SKB-R6S so I don't even connect it. I don't need it with all of the processing power in the Pod. Without the tank...

    TC-50 Guidance

Okay, I'm sure most everyone has lost interest hearing about my grief but there is positive progress here. It took awhile but my ears are finally settling into the tones of this amp I realize I don't like the tone from EL34s. I am definitely a 6L6 guy. There's a certain volume you need to reach...

    TC-50 Guidance

That sounds reasonable knowing it's a demo and I would guess you paid demo pricing. From what I understand through a local dealer is all Mesa amps are purchased in full up front. I couldn't imagine any dealer risking holding inventory for 2 years so I questioned my dealer but I was assured the...

    TC-50 Guidance

Lot's of great support here! Really appreciate everyone's comments and input. Much thanks. Question - When you received your new Triple Crown was there anything unusual about the packaging for the foot pedal? When I received mine new in the box the foot pedal package had a couple slits at the...

    TC-50 Guidance

Thanks for all of the replies. Very much appreciated. I do believe it is starting to mellow out a bit and you definitely need to crank it to find the sweet spot in those V30's. I am going to try the 6L6s which may be best for me. I never played a Rectifier so now it's no wonder I was a bit...

    TC-50 Guidance

Okay, so new to the forum but a long time Boogie user except I haven't played a Mesa Boogie for 20 years! Yes, I'm 60 but I assure you I can hold my own. To the story...Since the late 70's I've played mostly Mesa Boogies except for a couple stints with a Marshall JCM800 in 1980(?) and a Marshall...
