    Mark V:35 Review and thoughts

DISCLAIMER: I'm not a metal player! Running all of the EQ sliders above the line is going to add volume - this should be noticeable when you switch the EQ in and out. This may be what's making your master settings seem so strange. Perhaps try maintaining the EQ curve you've set, but move all...

    TA-30 and pedals

With great success: Xotic BB Xotic AC Gristle King Reezafratzitz Java Boost Sex Drive Liquid Sunshine OCD All work great. As previous poster said; depends on flavor you're going for. Loves the Luxury Drive Boost side of the Gristle King. I run a Spark Boost in the loop for more volume -...

Easiest Way to Install Speaker in 5:25 plus Combo Amp

The four screws in the front are grill-only. Don't bother. I was able to do a swap only removing the reverb tank. Pull the tubes, leave the chassis.

    Best Overdrive pedal for Express

Am also still experimenting, what's worked for me... On the channel 1 clean setting, I get the best results set on 50W. Seems to take out any preamp drive, hair, etc. and lets the pedal do its job. Am finding that a Fulldrive stacked into an OCD sounds fantastic. (On their own, just good.)...

    5:25 or 5:50 dilemma

If you haven't - try Burn channel on 5 watt setting. Very saturated. Don't be afraid to turn the treble waaaaaay down. Somebody put it; "EQ with your ears, not your eyes".

mastervolume mod on 5:25 (old version)

Brake Lite works great on mine. Or just put an EQ in the loop and run the volume below unity.

    5:25 or 5:50 dilemma

Good news = you really can't goof it up. Both are great amps.

    5:25 or 5:50 dilemma

I have both amps and play in similar situations. FWIW, my opinion only; hands down 5:50. The 50 watt setting does provide some additional head room, but it's a different power section configuration and affects tone as well.

Newbie problem - 5:25 stopped working.

Plug your guitar straight into the effects return. If it works, you now know it's something on the preamp side. If it doesn't work, change out the power tubes. If it still doesn't work. Amp tech.

    Very impressed

The use blues channel for clean and crunch for OD/distortion trick works really well on that amp. Don't know why you can't get to SRV using the amp alone, or with OD or EQ pedal. And, depends on which SRV tones... Haven't found anything mine can't do and sounds great mic'd (takes...

O/D, wah and vibe out front. Modulation and delay in the loop. Muy bueno!

    5:25 Rocks!

Hotplate works pretty well with mine. The -12db and -16db settings do degrade the tone, though. A little volume jump from 5W to 25W, but not much. However, completely changes the tone of the amp.

Metal sound at low Volumes on Mesa Express

Coupla lessons learned (and still learning) with my 5:25 -- Most interactive tone controls ever, especially the treble. Roll back the tone pot on your guitar a whole bunch (bridge pickup especially) then gain and amp treble on the burn channel to taste.
