    LSS Rectifier Issue - Info

I've not been on this board for a while thought I stop by. I still see a lot of question regarding the rectifier issue/fix. The official Mesa fix is to snip off the two 470 ohm (R101 R103) located on either side of the ribbon cable connecting the main board to the small power board on the...

4 those who did the drive sw mod, what ft switch do you use?

I've been trying to get a ft sw with LED that would turn the LED on when the drive is engaged and off when it's not and having a hard time finding one that would work. I have no problem using a ft sw with no LED. Also the LS ft sw works but the LED is having a reverse effect (on when drive is...

Bye Bye Piggy, hello Piglets (combo conversion)

I dread carrying the Pig (2x12 combo) to gigs every time so I finally put it in a head shell and converted the combo cab to a speaker cab. Should have done this sooner. The only thing is the Mesa grille cloth now is much darker than before. Not sure when they make this change. Here's a couple...

Lonestar Channel 2 Drive Volume Mod.

I’ve completed the mod and are very please with the result so I’m documenting this for those who want to be able to control the volume of the drive so that you can balance the volume between clean and with the drive engaged. The added benefit is you can ‘blend’ the drive and the gain and get new...

converting Lonestar combo to head/cab, question

If you did the conversion, can you let me know the detail like how to cover the amp front control cutout and add a speaker jack back panel. Thinking of doing it to save a few bucks, or just get a new cab.

    embossed leather option

Those sure look nice but if anyone has them can you let me know if the leather is durable or will it rip easily like my cheap leather jacket? thanks

Can the LSS be used as a 'pre-amp'

I want to connect an external power amp to it so my thinking is either connect the poweranmp to the fx send or the slave. But I want to be able to disable the LSS power section or not connect it to the speaker and just use the external power amp. If anyone has done somthing similar let me know...

LSS owner, help me identify this "mystery screw"

Just mucking around with the tubes and I noticed a black screw sticking down about 1/3 inch. It doesn't seem right as it's very tight to turn. Looking from the back, from left to right with the 1st tube being the rect tube, the screw locates between the 2nd and 3rd tubes (power tubes), slightly...

Link to Tube Data Sheet here

Specs for most popular tubes, for those who wants to tinker with different tubes. I don't know what all those values mean but the two important values for biasing are the the output power and plate volatge. http://datasheets.electron-tube.net/index.html

    Too much reverb.

The reverb in my LSS is very nice but IMO the blend pot is too sensitive. Turn it just a touch and there's just too much reverb in the mix. So I set mine almost next to minimum. I was thinking of swapping an 12at7 tube in to reduce the gain since most reverb unit uses this tube. Has anyone done...

changed to nos Rectifier tube, new wonderful tone.

I didn't know that the rectifier tube can have a big different in tone. I change the stock 5y3gt on my LSS in fear that it would give out during gigs, to a NOS rca. I've posted a coupe threads here about not getting the right driven tone in the 5w mode. After I changed the tube, I noticed an...

Tone of the single-end mode on LS or LSS

I have a LSS and for some reason, I don't like the tone of the single-end class A (5w) mode. I've tried and tried all kind of settings and with both single coil and humbucker. Power chords is ok but single note sounds like out of tune 12 strings or speaker with ripped cone. I think that the...

    rotating power tubes, anyone ?

Just thought about this and see what you guys think: I have a LSS and I play the 15w (2 tubes) on ch 1, and I crank ch 2 5w (single tube), and hardly use all 4 tubes. So over time the tubes would wear unevently. I usually change the whole set when it's time. So I'm thinking of rotating the...

    LSS power tube question

which pair is being used when you're in the 15W mode and which one when you're in the 5W mode ? For some reason I think it was the outside pair.

LoneStar question-can you pull 2 power tubes out ?

If you don't use the full power mode, and only use the 1/2 power or one tube mode, can I pull 2 of the 4 power tubes out ?

    thick/thicker voice on Lonestar

I played around with the thick/normal/thicker setting (with drive enabled) but I don't hear much of a different. With a note still ringing I switch the voice and can initailly hear a slight filtering change but when I play again, it sounds the same. Definitely can not tell between normal and...

    LSS popping noise

My Lone Star Special mades a popping noise when I switch channel and when I flip the standby to on or off. Is this normal ?

    Lonestar Special output impedance question

Just got my first Boogie last week and I'm still trying to figure this thing out. In the manual, it mentions that the Normal output is 4 ohm and the optional out is 8 ohm. Don't know why they just don't label the impedance right on the panel. Does anyone know why at 30w, the output impedance is...
