    Remember The Days...?

...when tongues did the talkin'. Click "play hi-fi" and scroll down for lyrics. Rhythm guitar recorded with Strat in to C+ lead channel (delay and reverb only), Lead Drive on 2. Very versatile amp! A good friend recorded three separate lead guitar tracks (never having heard the song) which I...

    Subway Rocket (reverb) footswitching problem

Greetings. A good friend (bass player in my band) just picked-up a Subway Rocket reverb, but the footswitch isn't working properly. The amp switches fine manually, but with footswitch plugged-in, it doesn't switch to the rhythm channel. When depressed and switched to rhythm, the sound is like a...

Why do you players sell their LS Specials?

I've had a hankering for a Lonestar since when they first came out, having demo'd several Classics and Specials years ago. The time was never "right", but I've since grown fond of 4xEL84 power sections and I'm now actively pursuing a used Special head. I typically don't play metal or anything...

"Awake" with IIC, an older recording (2009)

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=905654&songID=8521396&showPlayer=true Rhythm guitar recorded with '71 SG; lead guitar is '09 Am Std Strat, both through mic'd up IIC SRGX. The rhythm guitar intro really indicates the sound of the amp. I was aiming for a midrangey...

    4 Ohm speaker tap question...

Anybody know what would happen if the speaker (say 8 ohm, but not relevant) was accidentally plugged into the 4 ohm tap instead of the 8 ohm tap? Would it produce any sound without the other 4 ohm tap in use? (I'm guessing yes as they are parallel) And if so, what would the impedance be? (I'm...

Worthwhile guitar electronics vids; impact of Bumblebees

(note: I posted this in the Rigs & Tones subforum, but thought is was worthy enough to post here too.) I saw this very useful series of 6 videos demonstrating different pot values, pot tapers, cap values and wiring schemes for guitar. These are among the most useful and worthwhile...

These are among the most useful and worthwhile demonstrations I've seen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8dp9clGe-I Here's the My Les Paul forum link to the vids...

DC-3 red plating at gig last night

I noticed the two right hand EL84s (viewed standing behind the amp) were red plating last night. I installed JJs from Eurotubes, and though I requested 20's, they sent me tubes with a "32" rating. I called, and they said those were right for the amp. I find it a bit odd that only the two...

    T/A 30 versus DC-3?

Greetings. I've always been a fan of Mark amps and earlier Boogies in general. I still own a C+ and Mark IV, but I've been tending toward smaller amps that don't need BIG volume to get The Sound, as the Marks are too loud for rehearsal and most gigs we do. I've been playing through an Orange...

Anybody have experience with Laney amps?

I recently demo'd a Laney Cub 12R, which is a 15 watt Class A/B EL84 all-tube amp with an FX loop and very decent digital reverb, and was really very impressed. It's produces some serious tone and volume when run through a 2x12 cab. I've been doing some internet "research" on Laney amps, and...

Really useful and simple Strat mod

I've been looking for a simple, effective Strat mod, and finally found it: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may09/articles/singlecoilguitarmods.htm?print=yes You'll need a pull-pot and some wire. It's pretty easy to install and does not effect the looks of the guitar. From the article: "With...

    Hello and any MKII help?

Real good vid! Great tone and playing. Mark IIs are my favorite Boogies. I assume you were running 60 watts? Couple of things to keep in mind. The tone pots are interactive, meaning as you add Treble it reduces the impact of Mid and Bass, and vice-versa. Adding Treble also adds to the...

Did all MK IV have schumacer transformers

It's my understanding (from knowledgeable Board members) that they stopped using the Schumachers somewhere in the middle of the Mark IV product life.
