Take a look at the schematic here. There are a few resistors near V3a or V3b that if changed, will increase the gain of the channel 2/3 circuit at that point. If you don't understand tube circuits enough to pick out which resistors they are and why, I'd recommend against trying to mod for more...

Mesa Nomad 100: pre tube high gain, where?

Putting a tube in V1 will affect all three channels equally -- all channels share V1 as their input/1st stage. If you're fine with a little bit more gain on all channels, you can put your high gain tube there. V3 and V4 are shared by both channels 2 and 3; any tube change there will give both...

    Nomad 45 question

    To my knowledge, No.

    "Fixing" the Nomad's 3rd channel

You do correctly note that channels 2 & 3 have very similar preamps, sharing the same signal path, with only the gain controls, tone stacks and a capacitor switched between channels. Thus, unless you start tapping into the swiching system of the amplifier, most mods you can do to affect one...

I will have to find the frequency response graphs from the simulations I did of this part of the circuit, but you are effectively correct. With the resistors in place, there's more attenuation of the signal, in the highs especially. But the overall gain structure isn't changed. IMO, these...

Something wrong with my new Stiletto Duce?

So I've been jonesing for a Stileto for a while, and after spotting one on the local craigslist, I managed to snatch up a stage 1 Stiletto Duce. However, I'm thinking something's wrong with it. Everywhere on the Internet I read about the Stiletto, the consensus is that it's a very bright amp...

The Tremoverb is one versatile beast.

I suspect pickups can have a large part to do with it. In the video description and the comment replies, it comes out he's using an EMG 81x, and no boost pedal. A passive high output pickup like a Seymour Duncan JB or a Dimarzio Tone Zone would have different EQ and dynamics going into the front...

Nomad Mods - A Visual Reference

A rating of 1kV will be fine. That particular cap doesn't ever see anywhere near 1000 Volts across it, so a cap rated for 1kV is in no danger of failing.

Ok, It's official. I'm back in the mesa (rectifier) family.

Road King has one half with a fully closed back, and the other half with a partial open back. There's a V30 in the closed back portion and a C90 in the open back portion. The different speakers and enclosure types in the same cabinet gives a different sound.

I need help guys. Tell me I did the right thing

I don't know if there's any truth to Mesa now using the Chinese-built Celestions in their cabinets, but FWIW, there is no difference between a Chinese or a UK made V30 once they've been broken in. Don't believe me? Go here, and read up on the blind comparison that a guy did with two new in box...

    Nomad 55 mud mod

I fail to see how the Red channel of the Nomad is similar to the LD channel of a single Recto. The gain structure in the Nomad goes 1st gain stage -> gain control -> 2nd gain stage, 3rd gain stage, DC-coupled cathode follower -> tone stack. The LD channel of a single recto goes 1st gain stage ->...

    Tremoverb Unity Gain

Can you clarify what you mean by unity gain? I am guessing you want to run some sorta effects unit in the loop, and want the signal going into the unit to be as hot as the one coming out of the unit, so the volume doesn't change when engaging the FX loop? Something else?

    Nomad Clean Channel "Pushed"

The new voicing is pretty much controlled mainly through the treble pot. The break point of the treble control is shifted closer into the mids so it controls more upper-mids in addition to the highs. Whether or not the signal passes mostly though the treble pot or the bass and mid pots is...

    Nomad Clean Channel "Pushed"

Actually in Pushed mode, the tone stack is not bypassed. What happens is it is re-voiced. Capacitors parallel to each other act such that they can be simplified as a single large capacitor with a value equal to the sum of all the paralleled caps. That .002µF and 250pF would act this way if it...

    Nomad 55 mud mod

Truth be told, I have not made any changes. Shamefully, I've had the opportunity to do so until recently, but haven't taken advantage of it. Right now my Nomad's on loan to a buddy of mine. What I find strange is people finding Ch 3 to be the muddy one. I've never found Ch3 to be muddy. It has...

    Nomad 55 mud mod

What matters is not the absolute values, but the ratio, as they form a voltage divider which determines how much of the negative feedback gets fed back and how much gets dumped to ground. The 820/100 arrangement is the same as found in many Fenders. Given the target market for the Lone Star...

Fitting a Tremoverb into the live mix

Still working on getting another cabinet, but the above suggestions worked great at band practice today. I threw in a pair of EL34s, set bold variac and ran the silicon diodes. EQ was Bass at noon, mids dimed, treble off, presence dimed. I was able to fit into the mix just fine, despite having...

    Tech Question... Rectifier speaker outs

I plugged in a cable and measure resistance from tip to sleeve, and got different readings from the 8? tap and 16? tap. A different DC resistance would imply a number of turns on the transformer's secondary at that tap. I'm guessing the 16? tap really is 16?, at least on my tremoverb anyway.

Fitting a Tremoverb into the live mix

I don't think I've run the gain past 1 or 1:30 excepting when I was experimenting with the knobs when I first got the amp, but noted on not running the gain too high. Heck, when I was playing with Vintage mode, a gain of noon cut through the mix plenty. Hopefully I won't have to have the 'you...

Debating a Nomad 100, tone questions

Some of my experience with the Nomad. Yes, it is mid-heavy. This can work for or against you, depending on the situation. Alone, the mids can be kinda harsh, in a band setting, all the mids do really help with cutting through the mix. I was able to hold my own against a deep snare drum that had...
