Your approach to dialling in the 90W

ahhh my approach on Mark V, and all mesa amps, is to read the manual - twice. For you I recommend you read it x3 8)

Can't get a usable lead tone out of Mark V:25

ahh you post is full of holes. You say you play "mainly funk, blues, southern rock," but none of these styles use high gain tones. They're all clean to low gain overdrive - not even distortion. If your tone is ice picky, honky, or middy, it's user error imo - not the amp - cos the amp can be...

Mark V Design Defect - Channel Switching Noise

Right... great research you've done except.......my Mark V is silent when switching channels. I've also played another five 25, 35 and 90W models and none of those have any noise either. On TPG forum, and many Mark V threads there, I've not heard anyone else complaining about noise either :)

Can Mark Five 35 do AC style chime?

Mark V amps don't do Vox AC chime/jangle. But the Mesa TransAtlantic amps do both normal and top boost channels just as good as any Vox AC30 re-issue provided you match them with alnico speakers or Celestion Creamback. TA-30 has an FX loop also. But these TransAtlantic amps are much better...

    Different Speakers with Mark V Heads - 25, 35 or 90w amps

    Bump for more comments :)

Problems with your Mark V...it's you.

Totally agree - good post imo

The one tone I can’t seem to get

Closest I can get to low gain bluesy tubescreamer type overdrive is on Fat Clean cranking the mid and gain dials - EQs to suit. Otherwise I use a Maxon OD-9 tubescreamer pedal for classic SRV style bluesy overdrive :)

    Different Speakers with Mark V Heads - 25, 35 or 90w amps

G'day For past 2 yrs have been running my Mark V 25 thru a 2x12 closed cab with V30s and also a 1x12 closed cab with a single V30. Sounds great with both - no issues or gripes to report. I'm now considering experimenting with different speakers in my 1x12 cab - especially alnico speakers. Can...

Overdrive Pedals for Mark V 25

Hey Lonny First imo the OD and distortion tones from the Mark V 25 are way better than any pedal you'll ever find. I mostly use the amp but .................there's a few tones the amp won't do. So for classic JCM Marshall tones I use an MI Audio Super Crunchbox V2 into the fat clean channel...

    Mesa MarkV / Saturation 'mod'

Are they Wayno? How come I never had any ice pick issues using about 10 different guitars & pups? Have changed a few tubes and still no ice pick anywhere. And don't have any hum issues either. I'll just enjoy while you guys fret over "ice pick"

    Express series being cancelled?

and why would you believe what any US guitar retail store said?

Anyone Replace C90 In 5.50 Express+ With A Neo Speaker?

Great Krek - we can both laugh at each other then  I don't find your statements interesting though

Anyone Replace C90 In 5.50 Express+ With A Neo Speaker?

No have not heard of anyone doing a positive amp downgrade like this. Mesa use the Celestion C90 and V30s on all their modern amps for good reason imo. While I've not heard any Mesa with Eminence anything I've no doubt it would be a downgrade. Eminence speakers only suit Fenders imo. If weight...

    Express 5:50 Plus concerns

1st issue - possibly the new amp has different tubes - have you checked. 2nd issue - yes normal

Mk V:25 FX loop tone suck

Your problem is NOT the Mark V. The series loop on it is very high quality. If you have a tone suck issue its one of your pedals or cables. Line 6 and Boss pedals are infamous for tone suck

Mark V combo - Humbuckers vs. Single Coils

Don't prefer either - both are equally great imo

    I don't play metal ...

Huh ???? I don't play metal ever. Great majority of Mark players never play metal on them or "full throttle". The Extreme and Mark IV channels are there for people who wanna use it but I rarely do. Even without Extreme the Mark V is still the most versatile amp ever made and will do anything you...

    Voicings

I have a 5:50 and a Mark V. On 5:50 the cleans and reverb are Lonestar classic cleans - almost the same if you listen to a LSC. Both are 6L6 amps. Crunch and distortion voices are very much Mark style. On 5:25 cleans are modelled on the Lonestar Special. Both are EL84 amps :)

    Mesa MarkV / Saturation 'mod'

Well Apeman my Mark V doesn't have icepick. But then I use different guitars than you. I can't hear any icepick on your video noodling but if you do it's probably a pup issue :)

Clean on Express 5:50+ vs Mark V

ah imo - the cleans on Express 5:50. Mark V (big one) and Lonestar are very very similar. All have 6L6 tubes and Mesa have copied Lonestar Classic cleans & reverb into both the 5:50 and Mark V. 5:50 does not have fat clean but its not essential to have fantastic cleans imo. I can't say that 1 is...
