funny because I am thinking about doing the opposite, selling my 1x12 Ace and going to a rectifier half stack. It's not about volume for me because the Ace is plenty loud enough, more about having a fuller sound which is less directional. Plus the Ace weighs about 5 tons

agreed, tite gain and fluid drive seem to get buzzy after about the 1 o'clock position. Dimed gain on the crunch + boost is :D

Sounds like the 12-65 is similar to the C90, it really smoothed things out and made everything more crunchy. I like the V30's in the Orange cab but found them way too bright in the combo. The crunch mode on channel 1 is great, it really fattens up if you dime the gain. Doesn't leave much room...

i think you nailed it. I go through phases wrt gain, in the past it's been as low as about 1/3 on tite gain (playing the same sort of stuff). I think now I have the MXR 10 band eq it will come down again.

I bought some JJ KT77's for my ace 1x12 but couldn't get them to fit. I'm sure they will but they are slightly longer than the mesa tubes and I just couldn't get them in. Let me know how you get on because I really want to try them.
