    Would you sell your mesaboogie?

I had a V for 12 years and thought I would never sell it….but I did. Mesa Quad too. I had got the quad when they were found for like 7-800 bucks before Covid and sold it for considerably more last year. I felt pressure to sell while the market was up as it wasn’t my primary amp. Change just...

    Mark VII and Fryette PS2?

The PS2 might give you even more tones out of that amp. I can't speak for the VII but the V I had for many years. I ran it into an attenuator (first a Marshall Powerbrake then the PS2) because it sounded so much better turned up. Especially the clean channel, which if you maxed the gain and got...

Mark V tone help for 70s punk?

If you find Edge too spikey, EL34’s help a lot for the classic rock/punk and hard rock tones in the amp. I had a head for about 12-13 years and edge could nail a 70’s Master Volume Marshall tone through greenbacks on the Edge setting. What kind of volumes can you deal with? Even though there!s...

The Mark V90, Longest running Mark Series to date

My Quad Pre sounded fantastic through the V as power. The different voicing settings on Ch 3 had great effect on the power section. Extreme really brought the beef for the external preamp. Having a power amp where you could switch in a tube rectifier and 10 or 45 watts, adjust voltage. Very...

The Mark V90, Longest running Mark Series to date

I had issues with the EQ on my footswitch as well. I always thought it might be the connector pin in the footswitch that maybe wasn’t making a good contact with the cable as wiggling the cable would bring it back. I imagine tightening the pins in the F/S connector would fix it but obviously Mesa...

JP2C Slaving into marshall silver jubilee

Does the JP2C have an internal load? If not definitely hook it up to a load, even if not turning up the master volume to hear it only through the Marshall. try the Send and try the Slave out into the return of the Marshal loop. See what you like the best. Slave out should have a level control so...

Lonestar mod to add 5 Watt mode?

5 watt mode in the LSS is where the real secret sauce is. When you crank it up and it goes into awesome hard rock meltdown. I love that setting.

Dialing In A Mesa Mark V

The following is from the angle of playing Gibson’s and having EL34’s in the amp. The mid knob on a MK series, V included is just a thickening agent. The amps have a set amount of midrange that you’re not going to impact in a significant way with the mid knob. Lower mid setting is a slightly...

Dialing In A Mesa Mark V

The Q of the sliders may be wide enough where they bleed into each other. So the more extreme settings of one will alter the perceived sound of it’s neighbor. The center frequency of the sliders does not change.

Made new rack ears for Studio Preamp

Really nice work. I went through the search for a studio Pre years ago and couldn’t find any solution for rack ears. Ended up selling it and getting a quad, which had ears intact.

Mesa Studio preamp too **** flabby

If everything is OK with the preamp and the tubes the only thing that is a swing and a miss is the User.

    Recall the 2:90's Mesa!

Since when are you switching that mid song. You’re either leaving it in half drive all the time or full all the time. If modern and deep don’t pop then you’re good to go. The Mk V pops if you go from either 45 or 90 to the 10 watt setting due to the extreme change in circuit flow and voltages...

    Mesa MarkV / Saturation 'mod'

The best “mod” I did to my 2009 was to use EL34’s. Made the amp good to go for me.

    Mark V Shutdown

I mentioned the OT as he was saying the amp powers on and the tubes light up.

Put amp in standby to change power modes

The pop will also happen when you switch channels between a 10 watt setting and either of the other two. 45 and 90 can switch channels with each other without issue.

Put amp in standby to change power modes

It can handle the voltage drop and increase just fine. The only change you need to put it on standby for is going, to or from 10 watts, because of the pop. Even that probably doesn’t hurt the amp technically. It’s just to avoid the loud pop. If an amp can handle being turned off without standby...

Mark V with 6CA7 or EL34? Any opinions if you tried them

Been using 34’s for 10 years. Loved what they did for the EQ on dirty tones. But I also use greenbacks which are another awesome match for the MK V. But I’m very much a classic rock/metal player. I don’t care for modern metal tones.

    Mark V Shutdown

A fuse can look OK but still be blown. Double check changing the fuses. If amp powers on the mains fuse is probably good but the HT fuse might be done. Hopefully not the OT, as you already changed the tubes. You could pull the chassis and see if there’s any char or burn marks on the board near...

    Tremoverb Tremolo Mods?

Has anyone been successful in modding the tremoverb’s tremolo to actually sound good. Maybe make it more like a traditional Fender 60’s Trem. I love the amp and if the trem was any good it would be some serious icing on the cake.

Quad mods—what’s been on Mike B.’s menu?

I called in too see how much it would be to have CH 2 be a clone of CH1 and unfortunately it was quite a bit. $500 or so just for the work. Labor intensive.
