ok, retube time for a IV.....what to pick?

If you play a heavier style as described, you may want to give strong consideration to Eurotubes' "high gain" kits with either a full complement of 6L6's or the 6L6/E34L combo. I am running the 6L6/E34L array in my MkIVb widebody 1x12 and getting a really cool "best of both worlds" sound from...

    MK IV Question

CRobbins, that is a mighty sweet specimen of a Vibrosonic, man! I bet it has tone to die for!!

Does Your Mark IV Do This?

My Mark IVb does'nt do that. It has other annoying habits that flare up from time to time (like a staticky crackling sound in the back ground at intermitten times) but no reverb problems. I have to disagree with the reverb sucks consensus. While it isn't phenomenal 'verb by no means, I don't...

    Keeley Mods worth the money?

I agree with that in large part... which brings us back to the theme of this thread: are some of the high dollar mods (like Keeley) reall worth the $$$?? I can't speak for the Keeleys, but I use the Monte Allums DIY kits in my TS-9, Boss GE-7, and Boss compressor. It really cleaned up the Boss...

    Mark IV widebody combo modifications

The FAQ did'nt help much. Its picture info was pretty vague.

    Mark IV widebody combo modifications

Got the handles on eBay. Seller is "jam4jaudio". A great source of speaker cabinet components for the DIY cabinet builder. Also has the black wide head screws to mount the handles.

    Mark IV widebody combo modifications

The Roadster and RoadKing both have them. And I definately agree, any Boogie (or any other amp for that matter) that weighs over 60 or 75 lbs. should have these. It just distributes the weight better and is much easier on your back too. I got the cover from BS Protection. They custom make...

    Mark IV widebody combo modifications

Here's some recent mods that I've done to my MkIV widebody combo. Yeah I know, some of you out there are going to crap down both legs cause somebody actually cut into one of these, but hey, this amp will likely never leave my possession anyway. First off, I mounted (yes I routed the cabinet...

Mark IV retube...still looking for the right ones

I bought a MkIV on eBay that came with the fabled "cocktail" tube set. I played it for a couple of weeks and then ordered a retube kit from Eurotubes with 3 JJ ECC83 goldpins, one standard and one balanced for the V5 position. The power section is JJ6L6/E34L. There was a noticeable difference...

Good boost for a Mark IV?

I currently use the BB preamp. Its not cheap though, but it boosts R2 really nicely. I also have a modded TS-9 Tubescreamer that works OK, but the BB sounds much more natural and has the better EQ on it.

V twin into Fender tube amps

I can't remember exactly what the V-Twin's settings were, but I do remember just setting up the Twin Reverb for a nice round clean tone, and when I kicked in the V-Twin it was way too raspy. I tried briefly to dial it out, but that underlying nastyness was always there. I done this in a music...

    Keeley Mods worth the money?

No- it's not anything like a Tube Screamer! I now own both, a modded TS-9 and the BB preamp and they are nothing alike. The BB is smoother and more "Boogie-like" with noticable compression, while the TS-9 is more tighter edged distortion with a nasty nasally rasp. The Tube Screamers are great...

V twin into Fender tube amps

I used to run the V-twin pedal through the .50 Caliber + amp with fantastic results! More recently, I ran it into a Peavey Classic 50 2x12 with great results as well. I'm using it through the clean channel of my MarkIV currently just for some alternate lead tones, and they don't really mesh too...

    are C90 recone kits available?

I just recently sent 2 Celestion Vintage 30's down to Simply Speakers in Florida, for a complete recone. They do excellent work and I believe they also sell recone kits for Celestions. They are certified Celestion repair people and use the genuine Celestion parts. As far as the C90, I'm not...

Who inspired you to play a boogie?

That pretty much sums it up for me as well. The Boogies have the sweet cleans, great soft clip blues tones and mondo mayhem distortion all in one box! Their feel and responsiveness to your pick attack has always been one of the greatest qualities of Mesa Boogie amps. I've also really liked all...

Who inspired you to play a boogie?

I had been a very astute and die-hard Marshall fan for years and years-- in fact you could'nt have pried my Marshall amps out of my cold dead hands at one time or another. I had heard Gillis, thought his tone was too raspy, Carlos really had a sweet lead tone, I was most impressed with...
