    King Snake #501

I received my King Snake 2 weeks ago. I've had several Mesa's over the years and always loved the tone of the early models. Single channel amps are not an issue. Actually, I got this because it is a single channel. It is also a 1x12 combo which is a nice option to my 4x12 Marshall half stack...

    Lonestar - new standard covering?

I saw an add in the new Guitar World for the Lonestar line and all the amps were in black tolex with black cloth grill. I had to take a second look to make sure it just wasn't a B&W add, but then I noticed the grill cloth was black, not pewter. It looked like the new default dressing for the...

Can you use EL34s in a Mark IV?

I looked at the manual briefly on line and didn't see an option for EL34s on the Mark IV. There was an e-bay for a Mark IV and the seller said you could use EL34s as well as the stock 6L6s. Just curious - I don't own a Mark IV.

Who's afraid of the big fat bass?

I have an LSC and love the clean channel and have been working on the lead channel. The amp seemed to me that it had the right sound in there somewhere and I just needed to find it. I could get a drive, but it sounded a bit thin and had the touch of that buzz I think people talk about. I did...

Roadking 2x12 vs traditional 2x12 cab

I am thinking of getting an extension cab and am interested in feedback from anyone who has used the Roadking 2x12 with the combo open and closed back. It seems ingenious, but I wonder if it would be good with a none RK amp, like my Lonestar Classic. Comments?

    LSC bias setting

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know or have measured the bias setting for 6L6s in the Mesa LSC amp as it comes from the factory? The 100W, silicone diode clean channel setting is the one to measure.

JJs and Rubys in my LSC

I just put in a set of Ruby 6L6GCMSTR power tubes and a set of JJ/Tesla preamp tubes in my LSC. I got the Ruby's from Voodoo Amps and the set of JJ preamp tubes from Bob at EuroTubes. I'm still looking for a nice 5U4G replacement - any recommendations would be a appreciated. I played the...

    C90 Origin

Are the Mesa C90 speakers based on a particular Celestion standard model? If so, does anyone know that model? Thanks,

    Diode Noise

My LSC sounds really good and quiet, but the other day I noticed a slight buzz when I am in silicon diode mode. Just sounds like a little bee, not really obnoxious. It is there when I am in 100W mode on either channel or, in 50W mode with Silicon selected. When I am in rectifier mode all I...

Back to basics on my Lone Star Classic

I've tried various tubes and speakers looking to refine the tone of my LSC. Last night I thought I would put things back to original state and see how I liked it. After all, it hasn't been stock since 3 days after I got it and changed the speakers. In went the MB preamp tubes and the Black...

    EL34s in my LoneStar Classic

I spent a little time today playing my LSC with a set of Shuguang EL34s instead of the stock 6L6's. All of what you are about to read is subjective and my characterizations probably do not capture the differences in sound. The basics: - I played using the same settings in each case to start...

    Speaker cab opinions

I have a 2x12 LSC combo and am thinking of and ext cab. I'd go with the Mesa one to keep it looking good, even though there may be other cabs that are as good for less $. My question is what is the difference between teh 1x12 adn 2x12 in terms of sound? They are basically the same size...

    extension cab for LSC

I am thinking about getting an extension cab for my LSC 2x12. I've seen setups with the standard LSC ext and have also seen some where it looks like recto cabs with the LS blue tolex. I'd like to keep it looking like my main rig, so I don't want to go for a third party cab (although there are...

Thinking about getting a Mark IV

Is the brochureware accurate on this amp? I am pleased with my Lone Star Classic, but have been wondering if the MKIV might provide a little more flexibility. How hard is it to dial in a good tone and can you get a warmer, blues based tone out of it in addition to the other sonic characters...

    Need an email contact

So far I have found the customer service at Mesa to be outstanding. The only way I know to contact them is via phone. For the next 2 weeks I will be out of town and I want to contact them via email for a couple of questions. Does anyone have an email address for customer service at MB? the...

Yellow jackets in a LS Classic

Has anyone tried putting Yellow Jackets with EL84s in a Classic? I have a classic and it hit me that that might get you the best of both worlds - almost. The 84s will reduce the output by about 30%, so in the Tweed/50W setting you would probably see something around 20-25W or output.
