    Wonky IIC+ PT

I have a IIC+, serial number 138xx, simul-class, passes the loop test, but the PT is wonky, it's labeled as a Mesa 561136. Is this a Mark IV PT? So maybe the PT was replaced at some point?

    IIC+ Hum....

how much hum do you IIC+ owners get when the lead channel is activated, say with volumes both around 7 or so? I get very noticeable hum, way louder than the clean channel only. I've tried different tubes to no avail. Just wondering how much is normal in these amps, or if I might need a cap...

    Mwahahahahahahahaha

Boogie Mark Meltdown :D Picked up this cab at GC last weekend after they dumped the price to $279. This thing has been languishing in the store for a year probably and even moved when the store moved. Its beat to heck and the grill has been painted white. The wiring was messed up, but GC...

    New Recto day!

Found a Rectoverb at GC this weekend used for $599. At first I found it a bit too "grainy", edgy and stiff, but I threw in a pair of old Phillips 6L6's ( same as STR415's) and it smoothed it out a lot. I still don't know why power tubes make that big of a difference even when its running well...

IIC+ in GTS head cab with Lopo speaker cab...

a little while ago I bought a head cab from GTS and had him put on grill cloth to match my Lopo 2x12 cab. The head cab is perfect and fits the amp great. Looks good. At some point I'll replace the chrome corners with black to match the cab completely. Combined with the AxeFx this is...

    Fun with cabinets

So I'm doing a bunch of side by side cab testing using a radial cabbone and my Mark IV. Guinea pigs tonight were a Theile, 1x12 compact open back, and 1x12 3/4 back, all loaded with C90's. Unexpectedly, I hugely prefer the sound of the 3/4 back cab. As you would expect the compact open back...

    Time for a shootout!

Mark 1, IIC+, III, and IV, and a couple Lonestars. The 1 and IIC+ arn't going anywhere, but I won't keep both the III and IV, and might not keep either. Got me a head switcher and a cab switcher so I can test heads side by side and cabs side by side. Should be fun. :) The wall-o-boogies is...

    PRS Mira

+ Lonestar = kick butt. :D Mira definately has the old school vibe going. Super light, very comfortable, vintage strength pickups. Great guitar for Jazz/Roots/Blues/Classic Rock, or anything where you don't need super hot pickups. Volume and tone controls are very useable and the pickup...

    My "Lone-Stack"

Got the short head in. Kicks butt. It came in with EL34's, but after playing it a bit I think I'll put 6L6 back in. This configuration is much more managable than the big honkin combo. Now I just need to move my IIC+ into a head and get a headswitcher to complete the "tower of power".

    Lonestar trick - more gain

ok, maybe I'm the only one that didn't know this, but, if you want more gain from either lonestar channel, make sure the effects loop is engaged and crank the masters. I think what happens is that you end up overdriving the tube that buffers the effect loops, effectively adding an extra...

    Yay! Lonestar short head.

Scored from Ebay. Been looking for one of these for a while. Mesa didn't make too many in this format. Should sit perfect on my Mark sized compact cabs and Theiles, and I can get rid of the big ole honkin 1x12 combo I have now. I kept trying to just get rid of my 1x12, but everytime I played it...

    WTB: Mark Short Headshell IIBC/III/IV

( yeah, I know, me and everybody else.... ) I want to move my IIC+ into a headshell, so I'm looking for any short mark headshell that will fit that, which I think is any IIB and up headshell if I'm not mistaken.

    Revisiting my Mark I

I fired up my old Mark 1 ( serial in the 300's) for the first time in a while. Man, I forgot how great this old dude sounds. I sent it into Mesa for service about 6 months ago and haven't really fired her up for much time since then. It gets flabby pretty fast if you use too much gain from...
