    Wonky IIC+ PT

thanks for the info. I sent a message to Mesa on Friday, hopefully they have some information about this amp.

    Wonky IIC+ PT

I have a IIC+, serial number 138xx, simul-class, passes the loop test, but the PT is wonky, it's labeled as a Mesa 561136. Is this a Mark IV PT? So maybe the PT was replaced at some point?

    IIC+ Hum....

how much hum do you IIC+ owners get when the lead channel is activated, say with volumes both around 7 or so? I get very noticeable hum, way louder than the clean channel only. I've tried different tubes to no avail. Just wondering how much is normal in these amps, or if I might need a cap...

    Mwahahahahahahahaha

I thought about just trying to stretch some grill cloth over the metal.

    Mwahahahahahahahaha

actually what Im thinking of doing is painting the grill and changing the grill cloth on the head to both be a dark red similar to the PRS's color.

    1 x 12 open back compact

it'd be fine for rehearals, but they do sound a little "boxy". Definitely portable though.

Boogie Mark Meltdown :D Picked up this cab at GC last weekend after they dumped the price to $279. This thing has been languishing in the store for a year probably and even moved when the store moved. Its beat to heck and the grill has been painted white. The wiring was messed up, but GC...

How to install a bias pot in a Rectifier

Just wanted to add for the sake of completeness that this calculation is wrong. If you put a solid wire in parallel with a resistor, the end resistance is 0 ohms, it's a short. The actual calculation for two resistors in parallel is (R1*R2)/(R1+R2). Since one of the values in this case is 0...

    Mesa Boogie Subway Rocket..?

If you are trying to do jazz, just know that there is very little clean headroom on the Subways. It won't be clean hanging with a drummer, unless you have a quiet drummer. Great blues amps, but not for Jazz, and not for much above classic rock levels of gain, IMO.

Getting a smoother lead tone from F-50

I found that with nearly any amp, the best approach to a smooth lead tone is use lower gain on the channel and hit it with a clean boost. I use a seymour duncan pickup booster, but an Xotic AC or RC boost would probably be good too. I discovered this when I had a Lonestar for a while and...

    New Recto day!

Found a Rectoverb at GC this weekend used for $599. At first I found it a bit too "grainy", edgy and stiff, but I threw in a pair of old Phillips 6L6's ( same as STR415's) and it smoothed it out a lot. I still don't know why power tubes make that big of a difference even when its running well...

Mark IV channel two - wow!

If you install a treble bleed capacitor on the volume control you can retain the highs better when you roll off the volume.
