    Lone Star Special for me?

You must be thinking of the regular lonestar not the lonestar special since the lonestar special uses el84 tubes and cannot be switched to 6l6.

no output on my lonestar special :(

I don't know why but those tubes go out frequently. I'm sure that is the problem. It's happened twice on mine but it has not caused any other damage

    New LLS owner!

to really here what the thick/thicker switch is doing, turn the treble way up. In my opinion, it a fairly subtle difference with the treble at 12:00.

    LSS fuse problems

When my tube went out the fuse blew could it be that one of your tubes is bad?

Question: Buying a 5Y3 tube for LSS - ANSWERED

Actually, both times it went out they sent me a new one for free. My amp is fairly new and although tubes aren't covered under warranty, I guess they have been feeling charitable since that particular tube keeps going out with the LSS.

Question: Buying a 5Y3 tube for LSS - ANSWERED

My 5Y3 tube has gone out twice in the last year. I got new ones from Mesa boogie directly but I wonder why the tubes go out so quickly. Is it an issue with the tubes or the amp? Are there other brands that will last longer?

Is it just me or does the single-ended Class A 5 watt mode

I can only hear a very small difference between the 5 and 15 watts at lower volumes and 5 watt doesn't necessarily sound better. The biggest advantage to me of the 5 watt setting, is to get better distortion at lower volumes for recording.

    disappointed with DC-3 purchase.

I've got both a dc-3 and a lonestar special and I would say that my lonestar special is much more open and airy than the dc-3 so its not a characteristic of el-84s. I would agree that the dc-3 is very midrangy, particularly in the lead channel, and needs to be dialed out with the eq, not the...

    My DC-3 died

the tubes are only about 8 months old and they all seem to be lighting up. Does it mean the tubes are ok if they are lit?

    My DC-3 died

Sound comes out but at very low levels. Does this sound like a tube issue? If so, would it be the power or preamp tubes? It's weird, I've had this amp for about 8 years and it died the same week as my lonestar special(tube issue apparently). Any insight is appreciated -Eric

Trouble getting a good lead sound with the LSS

I have to agree with the original poster that switching the drive on gives a really harsh unmusical distortion sound. Leaving the drive off but turning the gain all the way up gives, a much warmer natural distortion but just not enough of it. My question is, is there a tube that supports the...

    Lonestar Classic v. Special

The best feature of the LSS aside from great tone, is the wattage switching down to 5 watts. The distortion you get from cranking the amp in 5 watt mode is much better than the distortion from the preamp IMO. I think the LS has warmer cleans and more headroom while the LSS is brighter...

    lonestar special or dr roadster?

I have to disagree about the lonestar. The distortion on the special is a lot better to my ears. But it doesn't do recto tones. Roadster might be what you need. I have a clip of the lonestar special here www.myspace.com/ericweise . It's kind of lame (I'm going to post a better one soon) but...

    Lonestar Special clip

Here's a quick tune I did on my lonestar special that just got this week. http://www.myspace.com/ericweise I titled it "lonestar special". The guitar is a telecaster with a little 59 humbucker in the bridge. Pardon the playing, I'm mainly a bassist.

Just got a Lonestar Special - Question

I just bought a lonestar special after 8 years with my DC-3. The amp is simply awesome. Much different than the dc-3, its brighter with less mids and great clean and crunch tones. dc-3 has a much thicker sound, great for cutting through. But I do a lot of recording and being able to switch...

DC-3 Vs Mark I reissue or Mark 4

I have a DC-3 as well, and I agree with what's been said so far, although I've never tried the other amps mentioned. I put JJ's in mine and it improved the clean channel, particularly the reverb. Although, the lead channel doesn't sound quite as aggressive as it used to with the JJs. My...

Does the Roadster clean sound like a Lonestar?

Has anyone compared the clean channel of the roadster to the lonestar? I'm wondering how similar the roadster is and whether it sounds as good as the lonestar. thanks
