Something wrong with my new Stiletto Duce?

I would start out by swapping tubes, you don't know how heavily used the current tubes are. I'd save myself the time and expense of taking the amp to a tech and start swapping - it's not a bad idea to put fresh tubes into a used amp purchased privately. If the tubes don't resolve the perceived...

    Using Non-MESA Pre Amp Tubes

Pre-amp? Experiment away. I haven't used Mesa tubes in years. No need to change power or rectifier tubes, unless you're looking to shape your sound even more.

    Stiletto 2x12 impedance question.

It depend on 2 things: what is the ohm rating on the speakers and how are the two speakers wired (series vs. parallel). If you find this information, you can look at the Stiletto's ownner's manual and it shows a variety of wiring diagrams. You can figure it out from there.

    JCM 800 Sounds from Deuce?

Just an update - I was able to dial in some sweet settings that give a JCM800 feel by dialing down the treble and presence (9:00 range) mids about 11:00, gain @ 10:00 (tight), bass @ 1:00, and BB Pre-amp in front with some gain added. This amp has never sounded better.

    JCM 800 Sounds from Deuce?

That makes a lot of sense regarding crunch mode. The guy at the studio said that I'm the only one that ever uses the JCM 800 because I seem to be the only one who KNOWS how to use it  Everyone else feels there's not enough gain (booster, anyone?). Anyway, I wouldn't mind checking out your...

    JCM 800 Sounds from Deuce?

I (actually) just played a JCM 800 for the first time and I had a sudden understanding of that amplifier's reputation. I haven't been using my Deuce of late, but I was wondering if anyone has come close to pulling these sounds from the Mesa and what your settings are. Please, refrain from the...

    New Stiletto ace head

JJ 6CA7's sound great in mine.

Stiletto Deuce - Does the Rectifier Cabinet boost the bass ?

Hmmm.....I don't remember if the bass was boosted, maybe a bit more depth. It's been a while since I put my 4x12 Recto cab away (haven't been gigging), but I do know that my Stiletto sounded like a jet engine cranked through that cab :D

Is there an inexspensive and reliable way to test tubes...

Orange is coming out with a simple tube tester, just unveiled at NAMM. Looks pretty good from the demo.

    Just got Stiletto Ace head...tubes?

Try the 6CA7 tubes, I personally like them. Also, you can try the Eurotubes high gain pre-amp upgrade, it made my Stiletto Deuce even smoother. If you really need that true recto sound, just throw an EQ in the loop and do the classic V-scoop. This amp has more gain than you'll ever need.

    Bad rectifier tube?

Yes, and they were quick to replace. I thought I had the amp longer, but if not it's nice to know that I've got a little bit of time left on the warranty.

    Bad rectifier tube?

I think the warranty on tubes is something like 6 months with a brand new amp.

    Stiletto and NOS tubes

I like the JJ's in my Stiletto as well. I tried them in my Recto and they were a disaster but really made the Stiletto and even more solid sounding amp. I used Eurotubes high gain option and find myself running the gain no further past 11-12:00.

What kind of music are people using their Stilettos for?

I use mine for literally everything, it's very versatile. If I need heavier tones, I just throw an EQ in the loop and do a mid-scoop, it just doesn't get any heavier.

    6ca7 Tubes

All this Stiletto chatter made me break mine back out and dial it up as close to my AFD 100 as possible, it sounds great with the 6ca7's. I might actually switch back to my Stiletto as my main amp.

    Mesa Boogie Quality Control

I wouldn't hold Mesa Boogie accountable for tube defects, they could easily be damaged during shipping being that they're really not much more than over-glorified lightbulbs, to be simple about it. The fact that Mesa will replace the tubes within a certain timeframe of purchase date indicates...

Tried a Stiletto Deuce The Other Day...

Hahaha....I've gotten bad tone out of mine. A little video playback revealed how bad my old settings were, like a bee hive I tell ya'.

    6ca7 Tubes

Hmmm, it's been a while since I've had KT77's in the Stiletto, but they didn't set my world on fire and I prefer the 6CA7's. Now, in all fairness, I have my Stiletto's tone setting dramatically different these days. Personally, for a more classic sounding hard rock sound, I run the tube...

    6ca7 Tubes

No re-bias necessary, they are in the EL34 family along with kt77's.

    6ca7 Tubes

I totally agree. Even though it's currently not my main amp, the 6CA7's definitely sound sweet in my Stiletto.
