    Triaxis and Helix MIDI help!!!!

Been a while since I had my Tri-Axis, but I remember it was possible to map different presets to program changes. Is there a chance an old map is confusing things?

Mesa 20/20 Loud Hum Poss. Grounding Issue

There's also a ground switch on the 20.20. Try that, too. On mine it was a mini toggle in the tube cavity, IIRC. If it was lifted, plugging in a grounded preamp might have quieted the hum, as your seller says. As posted above, I wouldn't rule out electrolytic caps, if they are the originals.

Triaxis V2 & Fractal Axe FX III/How To Connect It All Up

Not sure about your MIDI routing. Don't know why the RJM uses both in and out on the Fractal. My old rig was CAE foot controller MIDI out>first device MIDI in, first device MIDI out or thru depending on what my desired information flow was, and so on throughout the MIDI chain. If you need to...

Triaxis V2 & Fractal Axe FX III/How To Connect It All Up

I would not use the Tri-Axis FX loop. Set up your Fractal patches with a send and return. Put "pre" FX before the send, "post" FX after. Make sure the send level is instrument level to the input of your Tri-Axis. The return should be line level to accept the main out of the Tri-Axis. If you're...

Road King II - “All the things you are”

And of course, the title of an old jazz standard. My THD Univalve had some interesting sayings on the PCB, too. Can't remember them now.

What to do with a non functioning 1964 Fender Bandmaster

That looks like it would be fine with some clean up. Inside looks normal for one that age. First off, install grounded AC cord and lose the "death cap". I would replace electrolytic caps, check tube sockets for corrosion, pots likely need De-oxit. A good tech could put it back in service, I'd...

    Jeff Beck

Saw him with Jan Hammer in 1977. He was always a stellar player. I was blown away by Jeff's Boogie in the late 60's, later realizing how much Les Paul's influence was in that. To me, he really took it up a notch when he started "singing" through the guitar, covering tunes like Somewhere Over The...

    Fillmore Series

I just got the Fillmore 25 as an alternate and/or backup to the Mark V 25 I use for most gigs and sessions these days. Very nice range of tones. Able to match the clean volume of the Mk 5 25 with no breakup, so no clean headroom concern for my application. I'm thinking this is what I had...

Can the Mark V 35 do chime?

I *assume* the 25 and 35 behave very much alike, except for the power section. If I understand what you're after, my V 25 CH1 crunch mode is the closest to chime potential on that amp, I think. I like the semi-clean sounds in that mode better than most other MESA amps I've had. I wouldn't put it...

How would you rate the cleans on the mark v?

If you don't need the power of the big MK V, seriously give the 25 a listen. I really think the clean channel is smoother. It doesn't spike me like the big guy. The lead channel has most of the stuff I like about the big one, too.

How would you rate the cleans on the mark v?

I fight the brittle-ness a bit, too. There's always an upper mid spike or something, unless the treble is so far back that there's no clarity. I think for me it's best with 90w so there's no extra crunch in the PI/ power tubes. Keeping the channel master around 10:00. FX loop in. Output 10:00 or...

    JP-2C and Helix

To really get rid of the buzzing noise, I sometimes have to use an iso transformer in the audio line from the FX device to the front input of the amp. With my MK V 25, I use a Suhr Iso Boost with the switch set to iso (left). This is both with the Helix and my Axe FX II in 4CM. The hum buster...

my Mark V channel 1 fat doesn't sound, well, fat

Well, getting closer. In V1: An EH I had sounded sort of thin, and Ch2 and 3 lost a lot of the smooth sustain. A 12AX7C helps the clean in Ch1 a lot, and doesn't hurt Ch2 and 3 too much. I think I still have a Tung-Sol in something. I'll try it before I say I'm done. Those JJ really push a lot...

my Mark V channel 1 fat doesn't sound, well, fat

Thanks. I'll try some tube rolling next. I've done a lot of that with my other amps. Like you said, it doesn't change what they are, but can nudge the sound toward something you're after. And it may be that it's a power supply/transformer/PI/output stage thing that just is what it is. Like a...

my Mark V channel 1 fat doesn't sound, well, fat

Yes, I've tried similar settings to that, and it still lacks the low mids, definition in the treble and the bass is too flabby. I run blackface Fenders with mids fairly high, too. EDIT My max mid setting is trying to compensate for my vintage to medium output passive humbuckers. When I tried...

my Mark V channel 1 fat doesn't sound, well, fat

Compared to my Mk V 25, or my old Formula Pre, or my older Tri-Axis. I'm having trouble getting a warm, full clean tone from channel 1 on my big Mark V. But I tried swapping V3 anyway, since it affects Ch1. (Left V1 alone, since Ch 2 and 3 sound fine) The 12AX7C was a bit lower gain and...

don't use the footswitch and ext control jacks together

The amp is back, all 3 channels work as they said. I notice they are all set to 90w. I usually run channel 1 and 2 in 45w tube rectifier. I switch ch 1 to 45w. It crackles and goes dead. I replace the dead rectifier tube. All is well. D'oh. I should have caught that. But the techs didn't...

don't use the footswitch and ext control jacks together

Follow up. Got a call yesterday from the tech at Sweetwater. Working fine with its footswitch. Not acting odd at all. All channels working. The day I sent it, 05/14/2015, it would only pass audio with channel 3 selected. Other than being a really complicated amp depending on lots of old- style...

don't use the footswitch and ext control jacks together

The manual on page 40 simply says that the external control jacks will override the footswitch, it doesn't say don't have them both plugged in at the same time. I called MESA tech support when my Mark V head stopped passing audio in channels 1 and 2. Still works in channel 3. Gary said you use...

second hand Mark V - worth giving to a tech for a 'service'

If the new power tubes don't sound different, keep them as spares. It's a good idea to have a backup set anyway. Preamp tubes don't wear out quickly. They can, however, go microphonic, ringing and howling especially if it's a combo amp. There's a section in the manual describing tube issues. If...
