what pedal to use for leads?

Sorry I bothered to respond. I mistakenly thought serious suggestions from players who actually take their gear out of the house might be appreciated. rock on.

what pedal to use for leads?

Try this: dial in the lead sound you want for solos and then turn your guitar down a bit for rhythm. Don't worry about numbers--let your ears find the sweet spot. Volume knobs don't just go to ten--they also go to 9, 8, 7, etc.

    The Blue Angel Appreciation Thread

My, how this little thread has grown since I've been away! Where did all these 'tone heads' come from? I guess 'If you build it they will come' is a bit of a self-fulfilling prophesy in this case. Or should I say: 'if you start the thread they will post,'? Maybe I should have...

Being a die hard strat player, I've always played strats through my Blue Angel. It gets great, chimey clean tones with a strat. It sounds even better with slightly under wound, vintage style strat pickups. A stock set of Lindy Fralin strat pickups would really shine through this amp. PAF...

    The Blue Angel Appreciation Thread

Yeah, it's a pretty moody amp in general. lol! If it sounds dark on the 6V6 setting, turn the bright switch on and turn the bass down a bit. Good tubes will make a major difference. When I bought them they were $60 for a matched pair. When it comes time to replace them, I'll try to find a...

Use your ears. Try all the different tube combinations and don't be affraid to turn that bad boy up--way up. I've had mine for almost 6 years and I'm still figuring out how to get the most tone out of it. It sounds the best when I turn it up high enough to break up and then goose it with a clean...

That rattle you describe may be an indication that your EL84s need to be replaced. When mine went the amp would make this static type popping noise that almost sounded like a loose solder joint when using the 6V6s. What kind of Celestions do you have? I've got the stock Eminence alnicos in mine...

The rattle you're hearing is probably the cooling fan near the power tubes. As for EL84 recomendations try the Sovteks or J&J's. I've got Sovteks in mine and it sounds great. Don't waste your money on factory replacements, they sound like crap and they wear out quickly.

    Lone Star Custom Orders

I read the review of the Lone Star 1X12 in GUITAR PLAYER and it looks like a positivly wicked amp! I know the HEARTBREAKER has been discontinued for a few years now, but I'd love to have a HEARTBREAKER combo in a custom 4X10 cab, with the butterscotch crocodile covering, and some...

I'm sure I would but I looked them up and they cost $295 each. So for two of them I could probably buy a decent used guitar or amp. The review I read said that they're amazing, but yikes! Two of them would come to half the cost of the amp. Four would eclipse it by a few dollars. Would...

I've heard that certain types of 5881s can be substituted for 6V6s in various tube amps, but I didn't know that the BA would accept 'garden variety' 6L6s. I'm going to have to try this. Thanks for sharing the info. :)

Using a second preamp before 2/CH RECTO's Clean Channel

Why not just run two amps? If need be there are switchers specifically made for switching cabs and heads. You could just use two heads and one cab. If I wanted multiple channels that's the route I'd go. Just a thought.

Overdrive pedals and the Lone Star...

:?: I haven't played through a Lone Star yet, but given the fact that it is a channel switching amp, why would you want to stick an overdrive/distortion in front of it? Is there something wrong with the amp's lead channel? I thought that was the point of having channel switching. :? I don't mean...

**** them! I paid over $1200 for my BA and all I got was a key chain! I want my swag. I even sent MESA a nice letter telling them how much I loved my new amp. Okay I'm just faking it. I'm not really pist-off about it. Though I don't think I should have to throw down $20 for a T-shirt...

A Question For the 4X12 Crowd:

Well that just goes to show that you can't believe everything people tell you. I've never owned a 4X12 cab so I really can't comment, but I'm glad I asked. I probably should have made the question a poll. Somebody told me that Marshall wired their cabs for 16 ohms because a 16 ohm load has...

Which overdrives do you use with your BA? I've had the best results with a Fulldrive2 on the comp-cut setting. I set the volume on the amp at about 1:00 and goose the front end with a hot signal. IMO a pushed amp always sounds better than an overdrive pedal, but a combination of the two seems to...

A Question For the 4X12 Crowd:

:?: I've heard that a 4X12 cab wired for a 16 ohm load has better low end response than a 4X12 cab wired for 8 ohms. Is that true? Do 16 ohm cabs have bigger sounding bottom-end than 8 ohm cabs?

Yeah I saw the photos in the NAMM report. Thanks for posting them BTW. So how many watts is that bad boy anyway? The original 'Lone Star' is 100 watts RMS right? Is the 'Special' a thirty watt amp?

    LoneStar Special?

:?: Does anyone know if the output transformer on the 4X10 version has a 2ohm tap :?:

I think Brook-Mays Music is still a MESA dealer. You might give them a call. Sounds like fun. What amp do you have now :?:
