REISSUE Rumor: Mark IIC+ and 2ch Recto

Mesa has innovated quite a lot over its more than 50 years. But eventually all the good and easy ideas for new products are all explored. This has happened to EVERY major company in the music business. Fender, Gibson, Marshall, Mesa, you name it, if they've been around for a long time, they've...

REISSUE Rumor: Mark IIC+ and 2ch Recto

I DID say that there's nothing about a Mark II that can't be built today using current production, original, repro, or new substitute parts. Guess I'm right again.

REISSUE Rumor: Mark IIC+ and 2ch Recto

Straight from Mesa: "The Mark IIC+ is not a limited run and will be part of the production line. As for the Reverb/EQ switch, yes they do come with the amp, but it will be a little while before we have extra ready for sales. " Hardwood/custom headshells are not CURRENTLY orderable with the...

REISSUE Rumor: Mark IIC+ and 2ch Recto

I placed an order for one. If I can get an upgrade to a hardwood headshell for it, I'll do that too. I'm thinking heavily flamed maple and BLUE stain. A blue that won't fade. Why not?

REISSUE Rumor: Mark IIC+ and 2ch Recto

From my conversation with someone at Mesa, forget about the STR-415s. They sold the last of those during the Russian tube crisis at the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war. So they told me. I've got a quartet of them saved back for a special amp. They're not new but they're very healthy...

REISSUE Rumor: Mark IIC+ and 2ch Recto

Germanium is heavily used in thermal optics. It's not banned, it's actually in high enough demand that prices on it have been steadily rising for years. Germanium is transparent in the infrared spectrum but opaque in the visible spectrum. It's NO FACTOR in the tone of an original Mark IIC...

    Mark Series graphic equalizers

Personally I used to use the 5 band EQ and it's great for what it is, but I FAR prefer to put a 1/3 octave graphic in the effects loop instead. The 1/3 octave EQ is a precision tool, while the 5 band is a blunt instrument.

REISSUE Rumor: Mark IIC+ and 2ch Recto

Why are you talking about germanium? Germanium diodes and transistors have NOTHING to do with the Mark II's tone. Even if the EQ may (or may not) use germanium devices, the EQ can be re-engineered to use Silicon devices with no negative effects.

REISSUE Rumor: Mark IIC+ and 2ch Recto

Once again, there hasn't been so much as a sniff of a rumor that Gibson plans to outsource Mesa amp production. Nor do I ever expect them to do that. Gibson is heavily invested in USA MADE WORLD PLAYED even when it can be argued that they could improve their QC by outsourcing to a premium...

REISSUE Rumor: Mark IIC+ and 2ch Recto

What does germanium have to do with anything in this context? The Mark IIC+ doesn't use diodes for clipping. Or does it? I've never heard that. I've never seen it in the schematic.

REISSUE Rumor: Mark IIC+ and 2ch Recto

1: Only the well heeled and well connected will EVER get a chance to buy one of these from Mesa. At the very minimum, I expect nobody who isn't at the level of a social media influencer to be given a chance to make a deposit for one. I'm a nobody, and will never be presented with that...

Sold / Withdrawn WTB Five Band Graphic EQ

I propose an alternative. The 5 band EQ is useful but it's a blunt instrument. It allows only some very coarse tone shaping. I bypass the 5 band EQ in my Mark III and run a 31 band EQ in the effects loop instead.. It's such an incredibly precise and flexible tone shaping tool, once you get...

(Attempted) Resurrection of a Mesa Boogie 400+

If you decide to give up on the heavily damaged amp, I may be interested in buying it. I understand that you are on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean and shipping costs would not be cheap.

    Wanted broken boogies 70s/80s

If he doesn't want the 2:90, I'm second in line for it. That's an amp I can use.

Mark V, best tones I've found for high gain "trick".

My answer when the question is, how can I improve my tone?, is use a 31 band graphic EQ in your loop and tweak every slider one at a time to tweak your tone to absolute perfection. I have been using an Alesis DEQ-230 for years which is digital, programmable, and stores 30 fully programmable...

Odd Design Choices: Why is Mark IV Volume Pot so Sensitive?

I had a IVB and the reason I traded it off for a Mark V is specifically because the output volume just would not work for me at the bedroom volume level I needed it to. At that level, which was very difficult to achieve, it sounded choked. I've had no such issues with the Mark V or Mark III...

What Speakers Sound Good With Mark V 90-Watt Head?

Any speaker you like probably works for one of those types of music, at least. The Mark V has a very versatile tonal range and thus might work well with...pick a speaker. I like Greenbacks, I like Creambacks, I like EVM-12Ls. I like V30s. I like T75s. They all work for one thing or...

mark III Black dot blown cap.

A basic cap job is not that expensive. But yes, if you can get MB to do the work, get him to do it. He is going to retire sooner or later and he'll give the amp a clean bill of health good for another 40 years. But do us ALL a big favor and intensively photo document all the amp internals...

mark III Black dot blown cap.

If the amp has never been serviced it's well time for a service and full recap job. The 50/75 cap is the bias cap. VERY important., Get that 40 year old amp recapped before other caps fail and cause damage that is more expensive to fix than the cost of a cap job! Yes, it's OK to go up on...
