    C+ modded Studio Preamp

Thank you! I made a comparison with the new Neural DSP C+ suite vs the SPC+. Spoiler - the plugins are not really there yet to emulate such a complex sounding amp. Cheers!

    C+ modded Studio Preamp

Full C+ conversion, fully reversable, no panels drilled or cut. Used the channel switch on the front panel for the Bass Shift, decided to keep the Pull Deep hardwired (just increasing the bypass cap on V2B).

Wanted Damaged amps for rebuild (mainly pre-1996)

Hello! I am looking for damaged amps (blown, missing parts, destroyed by pointless mods, ect...) to rebuild to former glory. Models before 1996 w/ some exceptions. I had the chance to save a few older Mesa amps that most techs said "unrepairable" or "too much work". One of them became my...

    Wanted Mk4 amplifier motherboard

Don't buy unconfirmed PCBs, please! Fortunately, this particular Mark IV B was saved from similar eBay PCB "repair". It's a transitional model between "A" and "B" revisions - undocumented schematic, rare example. (Well, I documented it while repairing, but won't share it for obvious reasons) So...

Mark IV weirdness, got any ideas?

Look into your LDRs and switching matrix. It's possible if a LDR is misbehaving to leak signal. I had problems w/ bleed from channels because of bad transistors in the switching matrix (the 2N6426). Broken LDRs can be fixed, as you probably know. I rolled new ones and replaced a few in my MKIV...

https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhH344YIgC0hqutXXi8T3RN2LUBM9_Wwk Here is what happened w/ that Mark IV. Documented 80% of the process in a picstory vid. Already recorded 1 EP and reamped another full album for a client. Read the video descriptions for more info and what I discovered about...

    2:90 is it worth saving?

The C+ is quite well documented from a couple of forums. But a big problem w/ Mesa is they are changing stuff on amps without designating them as a revision or stripe lets say. Some of the changes are very small, probably just to make them a bit different or what they had as parts that day. But...

    2:90 is it worth saving?

Good idea is to take detailed pictures before you disassemble everything and lift the PCB. You can always work with a schematic, but glancing over a good pic can save you a few minutes. (Also Mesa schematics are notorious for mistakes/missing components.)

MESA BOOGIE POWER TUBES NOT MATCHED AT ALL !

Never bought Mesa branded power tubes - never will. The only good pair I've seen was in a Single Recto I had for a week in my studio. IIRC they were fresh Mesa branded Sovteks. Right now the most reliable 6L6GC tube you can buy is the EH. Just 2 out of a 100 were bad (info from 2020). As for...

    2:90 is it worth saving?

If you don't know what you are doing PLEASE go to a tech. There are many things that can go wrong and Boogie amps are not easy to work on. Go to a tech - this is the only way I can help you at this moment.

    2:90 is it worth saving?

You know not everybody lives in the states, right? To OP: For EU You can find them from tubeampdoctor.com, tubetown.de, banzaimusic.com. I second that some good soldering skills are required and that stands for all Mesa products. The PCBs are very fragile and traces are easily destroyed if not...

    The Mark IV thread....!!

Another interesting thing I found about this super early IV B. The Power Transformer is still "561137" from "A" models (export version) and not the later "561141". This explains why I see two balancing 100R / 2W resistors on the actual PCB but not on the IV B schematic. I am fascinated by this...

    The Mark IV thread....!!

Something I found out while repairing a Mark IV B that I haven't seen posted. As we know - basically Mark IV A serial numbers span from 0001 to 6000 and Mark IV B start after that. I have a really early B version (low 6100s) and while comparing the schematics I found some things that carried...
