    DC-5 Lead Channel Tone Stack

Something I've been considering myself. Moving the tonestack would tighten the gain channel right up. Get it more Mark sounding than recto. Being of partial knowledge and cutting traces on the actual board, I decided against it. Between keeping the gain low and boosting it. And not being as...

Mark V El34 Tube Red Plated

Don't understand the problem myself with EL34's needing variac power. I use mine in variac because the manual says to do so and I like the sound a shade more. The Mark V knocks out 475v to the plate in full power and 380v in variac. I've never seen a Marshall below 475v though all of them...

Mark V:35 - too quite for drummer

    Dial in some mids

    Mark V Reverb delay

No delay on mine. Just a very quiet reverb on tweed and edge. I think the shop you bought it at is feeding you BS. You don't pay 2 n half G for an amp with delayed reverb response.

Researching Mark V for future purchase

FWIW I use my Mesa way more than I use my KK, now. And I only play high gain stuff. And my JMP2203 doesn't get a look in any more

Researching Mark V for future purchase

Hmmmm Marshall tone from a Mesa... destined to fail. I own two 2203's and a Mark V. I can't do it. I can't even get close to making my Mark V sound like a 2203. Not even crunch mode. It just sounds flabby too much gain plexi, to me. When I try. The clean channel sold the Mesa to me. And I...

    Mark V:25 vs Mark V:35

You know what, when comparing 2 amps like the 25 and 35. I'd ignore microscopic sound differences. Put it down to the different proximity and orientation of the amps to your head and ears.

    My first Boogie

Mate, I've worked on amps for people, built my own amps. Revalved a load of amps, repaired amps. And I used Mesa branded valves. I dunno how the warranty works. Whether it stays with the original buyer or transfers throughout it's lifespan. If it transfers and the amp is still under warranty...

    My first Boogie

Well why not just switch to 4 ohms on the cab and plug it into the 4 ohm socket? Always better to match than mismatch. Though Mesa say you'll be fine running a 16 ohm cab into the 8 ohm socket. Personally I think you made the right decision going for the 90 watt. No one uses 90 watts for...

    Mark V with 6V6s...

That's my point. High gain, they'd be useless. Notice how the problems with the bass aren't as apparent on the clean sounds? It's because of the way the preamp is cascaded to get the high gain sound. You're already turning the bass to zero, why do you think it will do the job with a valve that...

    What Pedals

Yep it's a hell of an amp. After near two years ownership. I'm only just getting round to plugging in passive guitars. It makes everything work. Strat with Knopfler pickups, Les Paul with T-Tops, Les Paul with BK Pete Greens. tele's P90's, EMG's and a strat with SCN's and a tonezone. They've...

    Mark V with 6V6s...

Variac power knocks the plate voltage down to around 375v. But why? Why do it? I like 6V6's but they're of limited use. 3 modes on the clean channel and maybe Edge mode on channel 2. The high gain settings are already lousy with bass and flub. You're only gonna exacerbate that with 6V6's...

    What Pedals

Apeman, yes at times, when I want to. I don't have need of boosts on most of my amps. But I've an old Watkins Clubman (59) and a self built 18watt that definitely benefit from it. I'm never going to buy a clean boost. In reality the gain from my stock JMP2203 is enough for what I do. When I...

    What Pedals

Apeman, yes, I've a Watkins Copycat. I never use it with my mark. Though it makes for a great clean boost. Mine is the 1970's version It's identical to this. Tape is not the only method of getting analogue delay. In fact tape echos are considered to be mechanical echo, not analogue...

    Mark V 35 Tone

I'd have thought it would have been mostly the same? Is that not so? One thing I have noticed, and it's with every amp and every single type of sound. Focus more on getting the same sort of level of clarity in your sound. rather than trying to emulate gain and eq levels. Since I took on that...

    Mark V 35 Tone

I go, Mark 4 mode. 45 or 90 watt setting. Triode and bright. Gain around 11 o'clock, volume around 11 o'clock. Presence around 1 o'clock. Treble at 2 o'clock. Middle on 11 o'clock. Bass at around 10 o'clock. the GEQ is set Low bass slider halfway between middle line and top. Low mid slider...

Mark V combo:1st power tube position blows fuse consistently

First amp  You've pretty much ended your amp journey before you've begun. No need to get another amp, ever

Mark V:25 Max clean volume giving guitar trouble

How have you got your compressor set? Trust me that is one effect that very few people know how to set up

Mark V:25 Max clean volume giving guitar trouble

That sort of feedback has more to do with proximity, microphonics (pickups/pedals/even leads). Daisychaining active gain pedals is a no no also. Which model Strat is it?

    What Pedals

Analogue delays in the front end. I've never heard one that works well in an effects loop.
