    Mark V “Volume 1” and IIC++ mod

I was very seriously considering trying to source a concentric pot which could replace the gain knob with 2 concentric knobs (like on the EVH 5150 III 50w amps) to act as Volume 1 and Lead Drive. Unfortuantely my amp was still under warranty so I held off, then sold it. And now the used price...

Comparing Mark IV Mode to a IIC+

If you dig into the schematic, all three modes are Mark IIC+ circuits. In Mark IIC+ mode it has the small coupling cap of non-GEQ models, and PULL DEEP is disengaged. In Mark IV mode, it has the larger coupling cap of GEQ models and PULL DEEP is engaged. And in fact, the Mark IV didn't even...

    TC-100 leaked

And he was saying they don't do it every 10 years because the IV was 18 years before a V succeeded it. 1972: Mark I +8 1980: Mark IIA +2 1982: Mark IIB +1 1983: Mark IIC+ +2 1985: Mark III Black +1 1986: Mark III Purple +1 1987: Mark III Red +1 1988: Mark III Blue +1 1989: Mark III Green +1...

    Mesa MarkV / Saturation 'mod'

In that thread you said all other amps have a 250K for the Treble pot, but it looks like only the Mark IV and JPIIC have a 250K pot for the treble pot and the 180-200K is in line with the other Mark series amps?

TriAxis: Any Cathode Follower Tube (Position)??

The Triaxis is, as far as the design goes, a member of the Mark series. The channels and modes inside it are largely pulled from former Mark series amps. It's the Triaxis schematic I looked at.

Mesa Quad Volume Drops, Push/Pull Knobs Not Working, crackle

First thing: Those pots are probably pretty dirty, that explains the crackling and some of the sudden erratic levels. Contact cleaner is a good first bet. And that seemed to handle a couple of those issues. Second, there's components called LDRs inside these amps (Light Dependent Resistors)...

    Studio Preamp - Recto Poweramp

On many of the Mesa power amps you can run just one side by leaving the other side (Don't quote me on this) in standby with the presence and volume rolled down. The real instructions and if it applies to the 2:100 should be online, maybe even in a Mesa FAQ, but also if you contact Mesa or read...

New to Quad Premp - have a question...

Channel 1, as you've seen in the manual, is modeled after the Mark IIC(+) style two channel amp. With a clean and a lead channel. Channel 2 is modelled after the second and third channels on a Mark III style amp (R1 was clean R2 was more in crunch territory, and R3 was lead with that crunch mode...

TriAxis: Any Cathode Follower Tube (Position)??

I will correct you, as you are wrong :P But just a tiny bit. Cathode followers can be used for a variety of functions some of which you mentioned. But they do not have to be, and the term "usually" depends a lot of the amp design in question. Marshall style amplifier circuits (which grew into...

Which Mark series if I don't use Mark IV and Extreme?

The Mark IIC+ mode and the Mark IV modes are nearly the same on the Mark V, they just vary on a couple details (Mark IV has PULL DEEP enabled, and a larger capacitor which the GEQ models came with to let more bass through). Many of the older Mark series amps will allow you to toggle between the...

Not much love for EDGE Mode usually, but...

I really enjoy for Thrashy high gain tones once you put a boost in front of it. Especially a straight volume boost which adds some of the low end back in. And turning the treble down to account for the voicing of the channel.

    Poll: How Old Are You?

Well here I am, the lone <30 member out of 40 results. :P I'll add to the original post that although there are definitely some younger musicians who do own some Mesa stuff, I find in the last decade a lot of the new musicians have moved away from forums in favor of Facebook groups and other...

    Potential impedance mismatch problem

Maybe try it in vintage mode and compare? Modern mode removes the negative feedback between the speakers and the power amp, so the way a mismatch behaves in that mode might differ possibly.

Amp turning off and on again quickly

I understand very much, and as a Software Developer who's built many computers as well I'm familiar with the troubleshooting skills. I just wanted to add the caveat in case you weren't aware, or someone else who reads this thread later. I looked into the warranty for you, and it does appear the...

Amp turning off and on again quickly

Nothing to do with that, correct. He just meant there's a set of circuitry in the amp that controls the signal path and amp modes by using relays (a way of switching from this path to that). That relay circuit is low voltage(maybe in the 5-12v range) compared to the audio signal path through the...

    Mark V 25 Cab Matching

I think the manual might be stating the difference between a single 8 ohm cab, and a single 4 ohm cab: A single 8 Ohm cab on the 8 Ohm out will have one sound. If you switch to a 4 Ohm version on the 4 Ohm out, you might experience a different feel because although it's am impedance match it's...

Buying Mesa amp from original owner who never registered it?

Guess I haven't talked to them myself, but the last I looked into (a year ago) if it they don't have a proof of sale to start the 5 years from then they can use the date of manufacture instead. It'll be written on the underside of the amp chassis.

MARK V Dec 2009 build date - any issues?

I only find it weird because the text in the manual says the VOLUME control is set internally to 7.75, and that original schematic works out to about that setting. But the revised schematic inside the actual amps has it set to 7 exactly (and because it's a logarithmic pot, that's actually a...

    Triode / Pentode switch

There's no Triode/Pentode switch because that's a feature they had on their SimulClass amps, but the 60/100W versions are fixed in Pentode. You could probably mod in a Triode/Pentode switch... but it might not work how you'd expect. On the SimulClass amps it's only the "Class A" tubes which...

    jp2C GEQ

Just a note: The GEQ is actually in the EXACT same place in both the JP-2C and the Mark V. It's the Effects Loop which was moved in the Mark V.
