Does a Mark III have a "death cap"?

My Mark III has a ground-mode switch. For what it's worth, I've never noticed any difference in sound or noise regardless of what setting it's on, so it might not even be hooked up anymore. Anyway, isn't a ground switch like this a sign that the amplifier has the so-called "death cap"? Should I...

    Footswitch for Mark III

Yes, it'll work. Just keep in mind the Mark III has like 4 different footswitch jacks, so you'll only be able to switch one function with that. I have a very similar Fender footswitch I picked up for about $15, works great to switch between rhythm and lead channels.

    MKIII control noob control questions

Lead Drive and Lead Master have no effect on clean or R2. The lead channel is activated by pulling one of the knobs, my amp isn't in front of me so I don't recall which one but it should be labelled as such.

    Wah Wah on FX Loop?

Wah-wah's almost universally belong out front of the amp, yes they sound quite strange in the FX loop. If you're playing with a lot of gain it can be an interesting sound but I think it's too extreme of an effect that way.

A Few Mark III Questions (Speaker Load, Reverb)

Mesas don't really care about impedance mismatch. Check your preamp tubes, I believe one of them is dedicated to the reverb. For what it's worth, the reverb on my Mark III head is actually pretty weak even with a good tube.

    marshall JCM 800

I seem to recall someone over on the Marshall Forum was building 10W JCM800's. I don't think there are any commercial 5W kits available at the moment. Either one would be a hell of an amp!

    marshall JCM 800

I think so. IIRC mine has 3 12AX7's. One is the phase inverter, leaving 2 tubes/4 triodes which would be 3 gain stages and the cathode follower. The low sensitivity input skips the first gain stage and only uses 2.

    marshall JCM 800

My main amp is a JMP 2204 which is kind of an early model of the JCM800. There really aren't cleans. Even using the low-sensitivity input with a single-coil guitar and the gain set low, I can get a bit of hair if I hit the strings too hard.

Does Anyone Enjoy the Mark III for clean tones or for blues

My Mark III has great clean tones which is one of the reasons I bought it. My Marshall doesn't do clean well and I was looking at getting a Fender, but when a Mark III popped up on Craigslist I just had to have it. Fender-style cleans and bone-crushing Metallica tones, neither of which I could...

    Marhall or Mesa stiletto ?

Old ones, no, but the newer models are footswitchable. The JVM is MIDI-programmable too.

    Marhall or Mesa stiletto ?

If you want a good all-around Marshall, look at anything from the DSL range. DSL5C or DSL40C if you want a combo, DSL100H or one of the older JCM2000 models if you want a head. Otherwise you can't go wrong with any of the 2203/2204 heads (badged either JMP or JCM800) for classic Marshall. My...

    Boogie Mark III power consuption

If you mean power consumption from the wall, I would guess 250 watts if it's running full-out. I have a Kill-A-Watt somewhere, I can get a reading on my Mark III SimulClass (75-watts) at idle or low volume later today.

Mark IV 6l6gc and 5881 tubes

If it's like the Mark III, 5881's are safe in the outer sockets but should never be installed in the inner sockets. (My Mark III had a quad of 5881's when I bought it used and the inner ones redplate in SimulClass mode.)

New User and just got a Mark III

I haven't had any problems getting the clean channel and lead channels dialed in but I tend towards a Metallica MoP/AJFA amount of gain, nothing crazy. First volume is around 3 - 4 and lead gain is all the way up. Cleans are clean and the leads are pretty hot. I'm coming from a JMP 2204...

New User and just got a Mark III

So I read elsewhere that the 5881 is only a 23-watt tube, while the 6L6GC is 30-watts (that one I knew because I used to have a 6505+). Now I surmise that's why the middle tubes were red-plating, not necessarily a bad tube, just some idiot retubed it with underpowered tubes!

New User and just got a Mark III

Hello all, I just registered since I finally own a Boogie. I'm a Marshall guy at heart but there are some things my old JMP 2204 just doesn't do well, so when a Mark III red stripe showed up on Craigslist for $850 I pounced on it. Excellent clean channel, and of course it nails the Master of...
