So, what amps do you own?

The collection has expanded over the years playing music. Every project was an excuse to try something new. And there's always a need for backups and the "big stage" and "small stage" rigs. It's fun to invent new justifications! ...Amps and combos... Boogie ("mark I" with 15" Altec 418-8H)...

Was/is there a Mark IIA upgrade path to IIB?

...and how can I tell if that was done to my Mark IIA? I bought a Mark IIA about a year ago from the original owner. It included a bunch of original paperwork, brochures, price lists, magazine reviews, etc. Interestingly, it included manuals for *both* the Mark IIA and the Mark IIB. The seller...

Questions/information on the Boogie MRK II Series

The Wikipedia entry is a pretty good introduction to the history of the "Mark" line of amps.

Did late Mark IIA ship with IIB manuals?

I just bought a Mark II I'm pretty certain is a IIA -- preamp-out/power-in and slave out on the back instead of the fx loop of IIB and later, and a serial number in the 4000s -- but all the literature that accompanied it is all about the IIB. I just bought it from the original owner. He had the...

    Mark I feedback howl problem

I have a Mark I combo. When the master and overall volume is high, there is a microphonic howling feedback which occurs, independent of whether an instrument is plugged in. It doesn't happen if I unplug the internal speaker and use an external cabinet. I've tried swapping out preamp and power...

Mark II fx loop and Boss pedals?

I guess what I'm wondering is why the line-level signal from the FX loop affects various pedals differently. Some of the Boss pedals sound just great in the loop, even some older ones like the PH-1r. But others don't, and that's interesting to me because I would have assumed that they would have...

Mark II fx loop and Boss pedals?

Wondering why some stompbox effects sound just fine in the FX loop of my Mark IIB and Mark IIC+, and others don't? Specifically, a Boss CE-5 chorus, PH-1r, PH-2 phasers, and a Malekko Echo 600, all sound fine and dandy through the FX loops of these amps, while others, such as a RV-3 Reverb...

Mounting a Mark II head chassis in a combo cab?

Hi, I bought a used Mesa 1x12 combo cab thinking I could mount my Mark IIB chassis in it. It turns out the mounting screws required for the cab are much narrower than those for mounting the amp chassis. Is there some special hardware required for mounting this that I don't have? The cab is a...

Mark I, II, III 15" Combos?

Here's mine, a 1978 Boogie. Picked it up a couple years ago at a local used music store. The reverb is super lush. Big cleans, nice saturated overdrive, definitely one of the best amps I've ever played. Gets a lot of play these days.

Mark I, II, III 15" Combos?

Here's a couple of photos from my 15" Mark I combo, I bought it last year in Berkeley: btw this is just eye candy; it gets played a lot. Too good of a looker and too good sounding to not play it out whenever possible.

1965 Princeton with Prune Music sticker

So I was wrong about the timing of the Mesa repair, just confirmed with the seller. He said he bought the amp as a non-functional chassis (i.e. no head cab) at a garage sale in Petaluma in the mid- to late '90s. He said he took it to Mesa very soon after he bought it, and that he just walked...

1965 Princeton with Prune Music sticker

Thanks for running that by him. Seller told me that the current Vibrolux OT was a repair performed at Mesa at some point (recently, within a decade or so)*. Anyway I guess it remains a mystery. * EDIT: I was wrong about this. seller said Mesa performed repair in the mid- or late- '90s. See...

1965 Princeton with Prune Music sticker

[This is a repost from the Gear Page, but it was recommended I share it here] Craigslist find, seller turned out to be a friend of a friend. This is a 1965 Fender Princeton modified with a Vibrolux output transformer, and a push/pull volume knob which shifts the bass response. Pushed in, it's...

Mark IIB courtesy outlet blew a tube and fuse

Last night I had a Fender reverb unit plugged into the courtesy outlet of my Mark IIb. I had been doing a sound check, everything sounded fine during the check. I turned the reverb unit off, and immediately there was a pop and faint smell, the amp powered down and so did the reverb unit. When I...

Why did Mesa choose to EQ the Marks in the way they did?

Truer words, etc. Confirmed for me every day I play.

Why did Mesa choose to EQ the Marks in the way they did?

I've owned a few used Marks now... a Mark I, IIb, IIc+, and III. All of them sound best when the bass EQ knob is set very low. Does anyone use these amps with the bass set high? And how do you have the rest of the amp set? What kind of music/environment/application benefits from this? Just...

    Mark IIb+ : what's the deal?

I recently bought a Mark IIb head which has a mod done to it: there's an extra gain knob in the rear, where slave out would be. It combines with the master on the front somehow. I just don't have a clear mental model of what the mod does or how it affects the tone overall... short of fiddling...

Mark IIC+ - Guide for Dummies

I'm new to this forum, so I don't know how it works normally, but I've noticed similar empty posts in other threads too. Normally in BB software if a post is truly disabled or deleted, it's a little more clean than what I'm seeing here. So I suspect some sort of database hiccup.

Mark II, Mark III, in love

I haven't had the time to do a proper A/B test with the same cab and at gig or loud rehearsal volume. BUT my impression so far is that the Rhythm I channels are very close in tone and response. The Lead on the IIc+ sounds brighter; the III is a bit darker, maybe a little more...

    MARK III SERIAL NUMBERS

Mine is #162XX, head, SimulClass, GEQ, reverb, and has the following: Purple stripe above the power cord. Blue '+ .' or 'x .' above the power cord. That is, some cross-like mark and a dot, in blue marker, over or under the purple stripe. Green dot next to the courtesy outlet. Green 'R' below...
