Thanks for the detailed response. My power tubes are the green color code. I'm getting tones I'm happy with for the death metal stuff, but ultimately the think the 6505+ is just better suited to those genres so I will most likely just continue with the 6505+ for my original stuff and use the...

Thanks guys. I'm getting closer to what I'm going for with your suggestions. I'm finding that I prefer the tone with the presence pulled but almost completely turned down, otherwise the tone just gets way too thin/nasal. Boosting helps, and I greatly prefer my one guitar with active pickups...

Thanks, I'll give that a go once I'm home from work today.

    FS/FT: JP-2C Head - **SOLD**

    Replied :)

I suppose I need to spend a ton more time getting things dialed in because I'm not getting anywhere close to modern metal tones with what I've tried thus far. I am familiar with the Mark series tone stack in general where the treble and presence tend to be the most powerful, with the middle and...

    FS/FT: JP-2C Head - **SOLD**

Excellent condition Mesa JP-2C head. There is on small imperfection in the tolex on the back of the amp, but otherwise it is in perfect shape. Includes unopened Mesa amp cover, footswitch & cable, manual, warranty info. I have plenty of positive references at sevenstring.org, various FB...

Been away from Mesa for a while, but have had my eye on the JP-2C since they came out and was able to snag one yesterday. I've only had a few hours to play it so far but my initial impressions are positive for the most part. I had a Mark V and had a love/hate relationship with it and ended up...

    SOLD

I have a Roadster head in great condition for sale. Includes the tube protection bar, original footswitch & cable, power cable, and manual. The amp is in great condition, with just a couple tolex scuffs and minor wear on the corners. Everything functions as it should. Updated with better...

Rectoverb 25 Combo vs Roadster Combo

I'd say you got the better end of that trade. Very nice!

Pops and hums in 10W and 45W

It is probably a tube-related issue. If you have spare 12ax7, I'd try it in the V1 spot since V1 affects all channels. It could also be a sign your power tubes need replacing.

    Keeping it!

    Mark V bashing / hate

I prefer chorus in front of the amp as well. Also running an ISP Decimator in front (works better than in the loop in my experience) and a boost pedal for different flavors.

    No longer available: Traded

Bump. Would be interested in trades for a Dual or Triple multi-watt Rectifier.

    Channel volume question

I notice the same types of differences when running my Eleven Rack into the Effects Return of my Mark V. I attribute it to each of the channels (especially channel 3 with pentode vs. triode) being tuned a bit differently as far as the power amp is concerned. I'm not sure that the Effects...

Need some help from MKV owners

+1. I can't see any reason to run the channel master that high. Also, Mark IV mode tends to sound like it has more gain and saturation than the Extreme mode.

    Mark V bashing / hate

If the primary tone you're going for is metal, I think there are better amps out there than the Mark V. The Mark excels at many things, and I haven't heard a better clean channel on any amp I've ever played. However, if you're just going for a balls out, super saturated metal tone, you might...

Have a 3 channel recto. Will a TOV or 2 channel solve this?

10 band EQ in the loop can be very effective in dialing out the "graininess" or any other undesirable frequencies. I no longer have a Recto, but I liked my tone much better once I got my MXR 10-band in the loop.
