Lone Star Reeder Mod #1: Channel 2 Pot-Swap

First, I'm way late to getting word on this mod. I've got a LSC that I've owned since about 2009. I absolutely love this amp. I do have a 64 Super if I really feel the need to get totally back to a Blackface, but this amp really does what I need BUT... I too have not been completely happy...

Help with Lonestar Power Failure Troubleshooting

It appears that the problem boils down to the MOV (metal oxide varistor). It blew. It's an easy change and costs about 2 bucks. I got help from the Hoffman amps forum. It's a great forum. Here's a link. http://el34world.com/Forum/index.php

Help with Lonestar Power Failure Troubleshooting

They are fine, all ohm out at 514. With no tubes and on standby a bad screen resistor wouldn't cause the amp to blow the fuse. Wish it was something so simple. I'm probably going to have to pack it up and send it to MB. Not many choices.

Help with Lonestar Power Failure Troubleshooting

I have a Lonestar Classic and am experiencing total power failure. It is blowing fuses immediately powering up WITH all power tubes removed (pre-amp still in place) and in standby mode. This came out of nowhere. I was fine tuning some tones last night, all was well, put it in Tweed mode for a...

Lonestar rectifier tube guide pin breaking

Great suggestion. Didn't think of the tape, that would probably do it. Also didn't know about the socket saver, very cool. I was able to super glue ones that broke, which was probably 3. Very strange problem. I've had dozens of amps over 43 years of playing and never encountered this type...

    Lonestar screen resistor replacement

You got that right. I've solved MANY MANY problems (amps, cars, home appliances, etc.) with a search. Of course the key is finding the right terms AND to not give up.

    Lonestar screen resistor replacement

A few observations that may be of interest regarding a bad screen resistor on my Lonestar (standard/classic/Not Special). I recently fired up my MB Lonestar prior to a gig to do some work on my pedal board. Last gig it was fine. I hear it breaking up badly at all volumes, the sound is hard...

Lonestar rectifier tube guide pin breaking

Anyone experienced issues with the 5U4 rectifier tube either coming loose and dropping out or having the center guide pin break in place? I have tightened up the wings that hold the tube in but have still had it drop out in transit- although less frequently. The pins have broken while in place...
