Help me diagnose a hum issue

Posting an update to this... This turned out to be nothing to do with the Mark V, and everything to do with the electrical interference in our rehearsal room. Switching to a different guitar (different pickups) reduced the hum a lot. Turns out we are right opposite a power station, so the...

Post Your Rig! Must Include a Mark V.

My simple but effective gigging rig: Mark V combo, 2009 Deluxe Strat (HSS). I usually have a compressor in the mix as well. All fits easily in my trunk, casters on the combo make load in easy-ish (the Mark V combo is heavy)

Help me diagnose a hum issue

Thanks folks, good tips. Bandit, yes, I'm expecting some hum... I'm not expecting total silence. My Express 5:25+ Combo has a wicked hiss to it when gain is maxed, and that's fine by me. This is a kind of grating buzz, though, I don't think it's normal (although this is my first and only Mark...

Help me diagnose a hum issue

Thanks for the responses. Thought I'd keep a log of progress in case it helps anyone in the future. Tried switching loop to HARD BYPASS - that made the hum worse (about twice as loud)! Tried re-seating power tubes and rectifier tube - no difference Ensured reverb and EQ were both disabled - no...

Help me diagnose a hum issue

Any help appreciated! I recently bought a (used) Mark V. It was working fine. Seller said tubes were old, so I swapped in some new ones I had (all genuine Mesa): 4 x 6L6 1 x 5U4 1 x 12AX7 (in V1 position, I left the other pre-amp tubes untouched) ...then I played a gig. Went great! Amp...

    Mixing 6l6 and El34

This question is addressed in the comments here: http://mesaboogie.com/news/2010/08/6l6-vs-el-34-feel-the-power-of-your-amps-power-section/ "Mixing the two different types of tubes (EL-34 and 6L6) is only possible in the Roadking and some Simul-Class amps – NOT the Dual or Triple Rectifier...

Loose screw in Mark V combo?

Thanks for the replies, mystery solved! As an aside, I played my first show with my new Mark V last night. Holy crap! What a great amp. I had a great time, and received several compliments after the show on the guitar sound. Super happy.

Loose screw in Mark V combo?

OK, never mind, looks like that screw is definitely not meant to be tightened down (it's really long, and is already touching the top of the cab). Now I'm curious as to what it's for... looks like it's an adjuster to prevent flex along the long axis of the circuit board? Just a guess...

Loose screw in Mark V combo?

Hi all, I just got a Mark V combo (used). It seems to be working great, but I when I removed the power tubes I saw that this screw was apparently loose: I'm assuming I should tighten it up before replacing the tubes, but wanted to ping the experts! Maybe it's meant to be like that... seems...

    Re-Tubing a Roadster 1x12

    1. No idea! 2. Nope. I pulled one power tube to make it easier to get to V1/V2, but you can do it. At least in my Roadster 1x12 combo the pre-amp tubes have a metal cover so it's a multi-step operation: * Twist the metal cover until the lugs align and it moves downward (it's spring-loaded so...

    New amp problems: Roadster

Check out this thread. I just picked up a Roadster combo and I had the exact same problem only with Channel 2. It was a pre-amp tube. I switched out the 12AX7 in V2 with a new one, and boom Channel 2 was like new. Since you're having an issue with Channel 4, I suggest switching out the 12AX7...

Help me retube a Roadster 1x12 combo

Thanks, that's exactly the info I needed! EDIT: Woah, what a difference. I swapped out the tube in V2 with a new 12AX7 (a J&J I got from a local guitar shop) and Channel 2 has come alive... tone for days. I just sat there noodling for 1/2 an hour because I couldn't stop! I'm still uncertain on...

Help me retube a Roadster 1x12 combo

Hi all, First post to the forum. Apologies if I break etiquette out of ignorance - pls correct me! Anyway, I just bought a second-hand Roadster 1x12. The age/condition of the tubes is unknown to me. This is my first Roadster, so I don't have a direct comparison (although I've owned an Express...
