Mark IIC+ vs VH4 vs Bogner Uberschall

Did a shootout with these beasts to try and figure out which to use on our next recording, I'm no closer to deciding haha. All good in different ways. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44R6kEWOc9w

Mark III blue stripe vs Mark IV??

The III is more raw and open sounding, in the same way the c+ is. The IV is more refined and modern, has a more percussive chunk on the palm mutes which for me is the best of any of the Marks including the c+. IV is a lot darker especially the B version. It would be the darkest of all the Marks...

    Mark IIc+ Leper Messiah

Thanks man, glad you liked it! You look like you have a bit of c+ experience, is there much difference between the different power transformers tone wise?

    Mark IIc+ Leper Messiah

Just gave this song a go with the c+, not as scooped as the original because I don't have a Parametric EQ. Tone has a lot of bite to it, would probably sound great with bass but I left that out so you can hear the nuance of the guitar more. 6 tracks panned hard left and right...

Mark IIC+ recap - huge improvement

Thanks! I just did a new one covering Leper Messiah, this time recorded properly instead of with a camera phone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxWs-I8cge0 Honestly when I first got the c+ I was confused because I was expecting this super tight beast and it was actually the most flubby of all...

Mark IIC+ recap - huge improvement

This is probably a well established topic but if anyone has a c+ that has not done a recap it's well worth doing. Before I had the caps replaced the low end was a bit loose on the c+ which was not what I was expecting. I managed to dial it out to tighten the amp up using some rather unorthodox...

    Mark IIC+ vs Mark V C+ Mode

Oh wow that's really interesting, I didn't realise the non simulclass models were pentode. The C+ is a 60/100 set to 60w, pull deep engaged. Triode setting was for the Mark V, it's a two-way switch between that and pentode regardless of which wattage mode you have it set to

    Mark IIC+ vs Mark V C+ Mode

Yeah that’s a good idea, I don’t think c+ mode is actually the ideal V tone so I should do another shootout with both amps on their optimal settings. For that vid pull deep was engaged on the c+ and the V was set to triode. Settings as per the photos if you can make them out.

    Mark IIC+ vs Mark V C+ Mode

Did another shootout, thought the V did pretty well here, definitely a bit more focused sounding than the original like Mesa always like to highlight with their newer offerings. C+ sounds smoother but not as tight. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boQXl0wb8D4&feature=youtu.be

    60/100 query

Hi guys, just curious how this power section works? In 60w mode does it drop a couple of the tubes like simuclass? If so which ones are dropped / active? Cheers

    MArk V 4x12 V30 recording mic placement

I did this shootout using the Mesa 4x14 Rec cab just as a reference for this discussion, single SM57: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQNZu68kJR0

    MArk V 4x12 V30 recording mic placement

Honky and thin would suggest your placement is too central on the speaker. Try moving the mic out towards the edge of the speaker. Also when dialling in your settings you need to have your ear where the mic is, because the amp will sound totally different from above. Generally when I record I...

IIc+ style tone without the IIc+

Just checked out your link and realised I've been watching your youtube channel content for quite a while haha, great stuff. Does your c+ have a newish headcase? Looks pretty mint condition.

IIc+ style tone without the IIc+

Interesting, I get what you're saying there. I'd definitely be keen to track one down and see what all the fuss is about, one day haha.

IIc+ style tone without the IIc+

A lot of the reason they are expensive is to do with how rare they are though (and the albums they have been used on pushing up demand), it's not like they have vastly superior components other than maybe the power transformer. In any case, I was shooting for c+ "style" tone here, not saying a...
