So, what amps do you own?

Mesa Badlander 25 Splawn Street Rod Orange OR30 Marshall SC20C Marshall Origin 20 Fender Supersonic 22 Frenzel Lil Jesse A crappy Hiwatt 5W head A crappy, solid state, Marshall A little Harmony amp from the 60s I've hot rodded for crunch. I should probably whittle down. The Badlander is for...

    Badlander mods?

I think playing with the bypass caps on the cathodes will give the wanted bass increases. Aiming for around 100 Hz or so on the -3dB point would be a compromise with getting it a little bigger. For gain, the plate resistors could be increased. The Dual Rec and SLO begin with a 220k resistor on...

Tap dancing is not my thing- solution needed

I use a Boss ES-8. It's a pedal and amp switcher which is midi in/out/through. I can switch two amps at once and there's still an unused jack. The row of pedal switches can be split anywhere to go to the front of the amps on one side and to the effects loop on the other. The last two spots are...

    No praise for the Badlander?

It's pretty normal for a 100W amp to have more bottom when compared to a 50W of the same kind.

    No praise for the Badlander?

I bought a Badlander 25. I had been playing a Splawn for over a year. The Badlander is much more of a raw, mid-forward, sound. It's a lot different than my 3ch Recto was, too. I always thought of Recto as smooth and refined, but the BL is the little brother that pulls knives on people and spits...

Which Boogie Channel does the best Mesa-fied version of the JCM800 tone?

In particular, the first run of Stilettos if he wants the crunch to be closer to it The Badlander is very Marshall-like. I have the 25W and the sound goes from JMP Mk II to JCM 2000. The clean channel is awesome.

    TC50 vs Mark V 35

The JP-2C is like '80s Metallica, early Dream Theater and Santana. The V35 can do that, plus the Black Album and Lamb Of God. That extra 5-band EQ is pretty sick, though.

Pre-Amp / Power amp Tube Set for Dual Rectifier

The EHX 12AX7 has a spiral filament in it which is prone to failure when used in positions with high voltage on the cathode. Those are V3 and V4 on any Rectifier schematic I've ever seen. I also like the EHX and Tung Sol tubes. I'm also really digging the high gain JJ ECC83s (which is also...

    Tight High Gain Recto Mods

I'm pretty certain that Channel 1 has no NFB. That's why the manual says to use Vintage when slaving an amp into the fx loop; it provides a presence control. I'm not looking at the schematic, but I'm really, really sure.

    Single Rectifier Problem

Does it happen all the time now? Have you tried changing any tubes? Does it make a difference if you plug in the foot switch while the amp is off and then turn it back on. If it doesn't squeal all the time, you can try replacing the loop's tube. I believe that is #4 from the left when you look...

    Please help with components brand

Those are carbon comp 1% resistors. I think they're 2 Watt. They're bigger than any 1W I've seen. The cap looks like a Mullard mustard cap.

    Tight High Gain Recto Mods

Thanks, I appreciate that. FYI, I found that I made a couple of mistakes with the math for the "Design Concepts' articles. There were a couple of really misguided articles I deleted. I hadn't thought everything through as well as I could have, but I've fixed most of it. I'm just really ill all...

    Tight High Gain Recto Mods

I've been using a Boss GE-7 EQ pedal in front of mine. Running it 12V with a crooked frown (max 0dB; min -10db) and the gain up to ~12dB. I now have a Switch DR pedal looper/midi controller to use it only when I need to. I want a TC Electronic Spark Booster (4 knob) and/or a used Nova Drive for...

    Tight High Gain Recto Mods

I updated the page regarding the voicing circuit, gain, and load resistor.

NAD Rev G - A couple of questions?

V2 is stages 2 and 3 for the dirt channels. V5 is the phase inverter. Before you order new 6L6s, change those 12ax7s, because the issues with power and gain will be improved. The bias should be in the neighborhood of -52V.

3 channel Triple Rectifier Midi Switching

I use a Voodoo Labs Control Switcher with a Nova System and it works great. It's wired up like you are imagining.

    Older 3Ch Bass Pots

    Thanks.

    Triple Rectifier Gain

I would check V2 and V3 if the problem is only on Channel 2 or 3. You might have a dud in there, even if new. Try swapping a good tube in to see if it changes. If Channel 1 is the same, check V1 as well. I have nice 70s to 80s distortion below Noon on the gain and you should too.

    Older 3Ch Bass Pots

I noticed on the parts list that the bass pot on Channel 3 has the part number for a 250k pot instead of a 1M pot. I'm not well, so I can't take mine apart right now, but could anyone confirm whether the one on your amp is #593148? I did some EQ matching using the Tone Stack Calculator and then...

    RK2 Slave Out

Yeah, the Slave Out comes from a tap on the output transformer and it's after the power amp section. You can run it into effects and into another amp, but a speaker load needs to be on one of the speaker jacks. A load box would be the way to do it without sound from the amp. Instead of...
